Possible Can Am entries

Postby BARC 1 » Wed Jan 16, 2019 12:14 pm

With the 2019 Can Am event being talked about, I thought I would get a couple of entries ready.

Returning with a reworked Ferrari 350, both body, chassis and more powerful motor mean practice laptimes have decreased.

I had a McLaren M6. So I repainted and decaled to represent a Bruce McClaren effort with a hint of BARC Racing. Scratch built brass anglewinder using a 21 K FF50. Not quick enough as the Ferrari 350 is all over it, but perhaps a SC130 with more torque will fix it.

Nothing like an excuse to build more cars!!!!

On a side note....NSR rubber. First time using NSR rubber tires. I don't think these ultragrips will last a 10 race proxy. I suppose I have been turning a lot of practice laps, but the wear rate on these seems significant as I have almost worn out a pair in tuning. Is there a need to worry?. Does a car need to pass the height minimum at the completion of the series? Not to worried about the spur gear bottoming out, but the car might end up sitting pretty low when the rubber is run off.

I have some Ninco Rubber, that appear to hold up much better with decent traction. Anyone use Ninco rubber in a proxy?

First off, that Ferrari 350 is a sweet looking number. I wouldn't recommend Ninco rubber for a proxy series. Ultragrips are my 1st choice in tyres and I have a Group 5 Sideways Capri that has been in 3 proxy series with the same pair of Ultras and I think it could go another series without replacing them. Admittedly I don't have a home track so it doesn't suffer any wear unless we are running that class and just last night it came a very close 2nd to another Capri (track owners car) with almost 4year old tyres. Needless to say I'd recommend Ultras every time.

OK thanks, Good to know. I will put on a new Set of NSR ultras, and not worry about it. Thanks for the kind comments on the Ferrari. They may not have done well, but looked good while losing. I hope to emulate this feat in 132 :D

Both look good to me; although there's something about a red car from Maranello…………….

Those are nice, really like the 350. I volunteer to do long term tire testing . While you mull that over I left you a pop quiz in the digital forum in Digital and analog on same track ( sorry, lost the link) questions about your track wiring.

Seriously very nice cars, Walt
