Any advice on removing stripes from Carrera track?

Friends,
I understand that this issue has probably been beaten to death before (although I cannot find it in the forum search function), but have any of you found any way to safely remove the stripes from Carrera track? I would prefer not to paint over it, because that would stand out itself (I only need to do one turn and one straight), and even sanding it due to its expected evidence left behind. I have been told that no one has found success since it may be tampo printed, but since people have stripped bodies safely using 70 percent alcohol or even brake fluid, I wondered if a similar chemical means has found success, without harming the track itself.
Any ideas or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried it and would be more likely to paint the entire road surface with something more realistic, anyway, but acetone takes care of the paint on Scalextric track. I realize the plastic, and probably the paint, is different, though. Got any pieces that are spare you can test on?

Thank you for the feedback! I plan to test options on a spare piece.

I know it's not your first pick but I have had good results covering the white stripes with a Testors flat black paint marker. I just carefully apply it on each stripe and it blends in well with the rest of the track.

Painting the entire track would have the best impact.
I have used the flat blade part of a large black Marks-A-Lot. From most angles it looks pretty good, but the now black 'stripes' still show from certain angles. Either way I like it better than the continuous Passing Lane look. This never made sense on an analog track anyway since Mr. Zippy and Mr. Zoomy are always in their individual lanes.

Painting your track with a flat finish paint will improve traction for all your cars.

The track is ABS plastic. You can check this database to see how various things play with ABS. Acetone will attack ABS.

Thanks so much for everybody's feedback, and I would still like to solicit further opinions from anyone. I really don't want to just paint this section, since it only affects one turn, so it does not look different than the rest of the "asphalt" (the other two-thirds are painted white to simulate Sebring concrete!).
One thing I have already learned is to stop brushing my teeth in acetone...

Why? What's the problem? Do you have plastic teeth?

I made a replica of Martinsville for Carrera Digital and used flat black for the asphalt and flat gray for the corners. It worked great, had super adhesion, and improved the grip of the cars. Might be worth it.
