The guy at Dart sure has a nice track. His personal guidelines for building a track are on his site and they are right on. I think that it is probably easier to rout a solid piece of MDF and then if you want elevation, you can cut and raise parts of your road. He has used the model RR method of building a roadway on an open grid. That is a little more involved and a new builder should probably be realistic about his skills and start with the easiest method, working with a flat table top.
I'm sure he will make nice parts for you.
