Morning all. I used to use Hot Slots for most slot purchases' Their web site was excellent. Every car page always had the right tires listed also. So it was easy to buy extra. Now their gone. Anyone know of another good place to buy stock tires for Carrera' Scalextric ect. We like running rubber stock tires. Thanks :text-thankyouyellow:

I could not find any replacement tires listed for Carrera or Scalextric cars. For a few of the Scalextric cars you could buy an entire rear axle assembly, which includes tires. As far as I know there are no specific aftermarket rubber tires made for those cars, possibly Slot.it or NSR tires would fit. Most people use silicone or urethane replacement tires. If you are going to continue to use rubber tires urethane tires would be a better choice. Paul Gage would be a good bet.

I understand some like to keep things stock and lower cost. But the low price of quality urethane, combined with the VERY increased grip/performance, makes them a very worthwhile investment. Especially when you are now buying replacements. Money is money.

Why not improve the model performance?

I totally agree with Harry - the easiest, quickest, and likely cheapest upgrade that can be done for an RTR car is silicone or urethane tires. BUT, that can start what I refer to as an arms race - once one or a few cars have aftermarket tires they can outperform all the other cars such that they need new tires too.

When I first starting building dirt modified cars for my oval I ordered 4 pairs of AML rear wheels & tires from Professor Motor because I loved how wide they were. Silicone over foam didn't mean anything to me at the time, but the cars I put them on were in a class by themselves. Gradually every car in my top series had to be upgraded to these types of tires. Though not nearly as sticky, I upgraded all the other series to standard silicone - either Maxx Trak or now Quick Slicks. No car on stock tires can keep up.

Same for my road course cars, they now all have PG urethane tires. PGT's are reasonably priced, but I've now bought about 100 pair and keep extras in stock so if I buy a new car I have a set ready to put on it. When I do buy a pair for a car I generally buy 2 or 3 pair to maintain an inventory.

Is upgrading to aftermarket tires worth it? Yes, and more for handling than speed. But, once you put some on a car or two you're likely on the path to a complete changeover.

Quick Slicks are available in three Shore values, we only use the extra firm ones, those are about Shore 45 I believe. All of our tracks are wood and we don't use traction magnets. We have tried all three compounds and have gotten the best results with the extra firm ones, however your results could be different. You might order a couple of pairs of each compound and do some testing before you order more tires. Be aware that it has often been said that running silicone tires on a track that is normally used for cars with rubber tires will spoil your grip for rubber tires. We run silicone tires exclusively, but we also do proxy races for cars with rubber or urethane tires. In that case the track is conditioned by running many, many laps with a mule car shod with the appropriate tires and silicone tires are not run until the proxy racing is finished.
As I stated earlier rubber and urethane tires are supposed to play well together.
