Is this for a drag strip? Or a standard slot car track where you turn laps? Not so old PC's can be found for way under $250. I've seen lap tops for under $100.

This is very sophisticated in-track light sensor timing, synchronized starting, etc. for road tracks. No light tower, no computer, big heads up display for each lane, and lots more- with an amazing amount of info, and no dependency on faulty Windows garbage to screw up a computer.
You should read the original review post to understand the update better.
Besides, I wouldn't buy an old laptop to use for a track, I'd get a new one for me and cycle my current one to the track. Why pay money for an old laptop?
