You can do it either way...
In most cases, the easiest way is to go from track to track.

Are we talking about plastic track? Wood tracks can go 40 feet without a power drop.

When adding jumpers it is not the length of track that matters, it is the number of track joints. The track itself has very, very little resistance (resistance is why you use jumpers). It is the joints that introduce the resistance that robs you of even, consistent voltage around your circuit. You will be just fine if you place jumpers at every 15 - 20 track joints. So, a section that has several 1/4 or 1/2 track pieces will need a jumper in a shorter distance than if you have full size track pieces.

jjk...I'm probably too late with my info , but I will throw it out there anyway just in case...I have a Carrera 1/24-1/32 digital layout with 81ft of track and I don't have any jumpers...I have the same voltage all the way around and don't have any problems with voltage lose while running 6 cars at once . Good luck with what you have going on .
Later , Fred

FYI, At around 60' our old Carrera 2 lane digital oval track had big power & amp drop offs per lane, the cars got slow, but, we are running big horse slot.it motors, now every 15 pc track sections or so we have jumpers on our now 90'+ track. Our next thing to purchase from cincy slots will be a dedicated power supply to go with 4 lanes & 8+ cars.
