NEW SCALEXTRIC ?????

Cruising the net this morn before I head down to the cave (we're iced in) I came across a discussion about Scaley rereleasing some of there yearly T/A cars, like the Bud Moore Mustangs, Penske Camaros etc. It was suggested that they be with the newer chassis with DPR capability and new style guide (I like the old ones myself). What got my attention was Adrian chimed in with a comment on the conversation. So I thought I'd bring the idea to the best Slotcar site on the net to see what you guys thought about this. I could see myself buying some of these to replace old warriors and some to fill in gaps of my T/A field. Sooo what do you think would you like to see some of these back on the market, I think it would be some easy sales for Scaley without too much retooling :whistle:

I often wonder why manufactures don't re-release old liveries from time to time. Just look at what some of those old cars go for on ebay. If I was a slot car maker, I'd look at what sold at the highest dollar amount and re-release those- not at inflated prices, mind you. That's key. As long as they don't try to cash-in on the craze and release ultra-limited edition models at insane prices, I'm all for it. :)

I agree just an updated car in the same livery, get rid of mister bobbly head with the newer driver and the newer chassis would separate them from the originals to keep the collectors happy. BUT they should be considered a new release not in limited numbers and sold at a normal retail price point! :music-rockout:

A prime example of a former model that fits this, for those of us that enjoy street versions to go with the track versions, is the street 1970 Boss Mustang! These cars, in "new" condition, typically can't be had for less than $100. I know, I for one, would LOVE to see a few more of the original colors of this 1970 Boss Mustang released!
Those cars had a couple unique features - like the rear window louvers, Magnum 500 type wheels, mirrors, wipers, etc - but I would think that Scalextric would have all of that tooling still at their disposal? (and I would definitely want to see those features on any additional releases) And as an added bonus, they still have the striping detail on file, as that is still being used as a base on some of the recent releases like the c3318 Libra Mustang.
There definitely isn't a shortage in color choices based on the info here:

Similar to the Mustang, there is also a premium for the "street" 1969 Camaro SS - that model has only been released in one color thus far - similar to the Mustang - there are a lot of additional factory options left that could be offered based on this: http://www.69pace.com/paint.htm

Continuing to look at things from the "street" side, how about:
- a street '70 Camaro "SS" (like: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/gallery/s ... 2678/cat/2 )
- a street Cougar (similar to the white kit - but with the parts that are supposed to be chromed chromed?)
- or maybe this one, as it should be REALLY easy to do: http://www.moparts.org/moparts/picture/ ... ne/vp1.jpg - I can't imagine that I am the only one that would like a "white" Challenger (ala "Vanishing Point") with the correct type wheels, chrome bits, etc that come on the street car (the white kit is ALL white - no chrome - but paint the current street versions all white, add chrome and correct wheels...)? :think:

BTW - Adrian, if you do see this, I am thankful to see the release of the new "street" Challenger and Charger coming! That will keep me from having to do as much repainting! :clap:

Looking forward to getting my hands on all the new releases! :banana-dance:

While I can see the appeal to a few of the street cars, I really think they need to release the Penske Camaros and Bud Moore Mustangs again. Several other racing liveries that are hard or extremely expensive to now get would be welcome too. I'd even allow for Mr. Blobby head if it allowed them to do it economically and made this a viable venture.

Oh - don't get me wrong - would have to get in line for a replacement Penske too! Just noted that there are also options out there that haven't been tapped yet that wouldn't be a "re-issue" but would be of interest and fairly easy to offer. :)

I Wouldn't mind a new Bud Moore Mustang or Penske Camaro. For $60 instead of twice that or more.
I'd really like a Bob Jane Chev, I missed out first time around.

I'm all for Scaley re-releasing the early Trans Am cars with the newer chassis and driver head. But I'd also like to see them re-tool the Mustang and early Camaro a bit. The Mustang overall is a great looking car but I've always felt it was let down with an inaccurate front grill. The Camaro body should be completely re-tooled. Compare it to the Carrera or Pioneer Camaros and it looks like a caricature of the real car. Scalextric is certainly capable of better.

Well, re-tooling is not likely to happen.

If they come, and they might, it will use existing molds they already have.

I can't see it being a "good" idea to re-releasing the older ones without making some type of easily distinguishable change to them in some way, be it chassis/guide system, making them DPR, etc, that distinguish the "new" release from the earlier release(s).
The reason I say this, is if they didn't make some type of notable change, it would most likely kill the whole collector side of their market that they have been fostering with the limited release / exclusive cars. In other words, who is going to be chomping at the bit to buy a "special" limited edition release (1 of 1500, 1 of 4400, etc) if it looks like the car is just going to be re-released again later. :think:

Also, as food for thought, I know I race with a number of guys that will both buy each livery and/or buy a "second" copy of a particular release to hang on to if they like the looks of it, etc to use for display, or possibly to use later for racing after the current one gets "used up". Now if there was a good chance that each of the models would continue to be re-released going forward, it would most likely impact those that do this. You would most likely see both the purchasing of multiples go down, and a cooling off of the "I need to get that livery now, as it may not be available next year", type of buys, which would most likely ultimately end up hurting over all sales, verses helping it.

But hey - those are just my thoughts...
