I just picked up the R/M Blue Thunder March 83G on ebay for a very good price. I already have the Kreepy Krauly livery to which I tried improvements without much luck. This time I would like to try installing a slot.It inline motor pod and running gear and I am wondering if this has been attempted. Either that or modifying a Porsche 956/962 chassis to fit the R/M March body and I don't know which would be easier.

I'm in the process of installing a Slot.it Mercedes chassis under the March 83G. The wheelbase lines up quite nicely. I'll see about getting some pics tonight.

Looks like I'm a little late but here they are just in case. Like you say Bob a little trimming will have to be done to the body in the front but my plan is to paint it all silver to hopefully cover up the majority of the issue. I like your mod adding the pod to the current chassis but the reason I don't normally do it is because mine ends up looking like a butchered up chassis with a pod screwed to it. LOL

Initially I was reluctant to hack up a perfectly good chassis but after having a few end up in the trash bin I am finally mastering the skill to take on a project of this nature. If I had a few more precision tools at my disposal my work would look a bit more professional. I sure would like to have access to a 3D printer because if I did I would go back and teach myself the 3D portion of autocad.

....All I did with mine was fit a Slot.it. Spur gear to get the gearing right....
I used the standard plastic pinion.
Also changed to a Slot.it. Motor, axles, hubs, guide etc.
It now runs quite well with my Slot.it. Group C's.
You guys do realise that when running with mag on plastic track the Stock Revell 83G would crap all over a stock Slot.it. dont you? :)
The 83G's weakness was its gearing (moonshot), subsequently braking action was weak as well.
A big diameter Slot.it. Spur will get acceptable mesh and gearing with the standard pinion and give you a magnet racers underdog to flog the Slot.it. cars with.....

I put an Avant Slot Mag Motor in my 83G yesterday, keeping the stock gears, and it solved the no brakes and no torque problems instantly. Also replaced the rears with ScaleAuto wheels w/foams, since one of the stock wheels had gone bad. Since we're running on a wood track I'll replace the guide next trip to the track.
