GB Track 917 questions...

I have a GB Track Porsche 917, it's actually one of the first cars I bought when I restarted slot racing. Any general tips I could apply to this beast to at least make it a mid pack runner? BTW, I will be running this against Slot.it type cars. (Not asking much, am I?) :lol: Why am I asking this? Well, this car "fits" in better with our latest racing effort at MPR and I just want to run it....

Hey Harry, can you believe it's 8 years ago since you did Flyfight,
It was the first thing I ever read on HRW and been here ever since.
I still got the Flys that I tuned up the day I read it and they are still looking and running sweet.

A well tuned Fly/GB 917 should do much better than mid pack....

Wow, yes time flies doesn't it? I had to comb my hair back then :)

And Jesla is right on. A well tuned 917 should be a hot rod. But remember that going up against Slot.its with the more powerful motor in them is not going to put you on the podium. You might need to try some different gear ratios or motor swap to even things up.

The Fly/GB Track cars are some of my absolute favorites. The 917 is quite a looker too. Putting an orange end-bell Slot.it motor, gears, axles, and aluminum rear wheels along with Harry's tuning tips will have you competing with the modern Slot.its.

I run this car on our nonmag MDF tracks at 13.8 volts and it is competitive with everything except the NSR version. Swapped out the front with 14's mounted with Slot.it zero grip. Rear is SCC 15X11 five spoke LMP wheels shod with SCC 2112r. Motor is NSR 20K Shark turning 11:34 gears. Slot.it guide that I might replace with a Sloting Plus or the new Prof. motor unit.
I realize not much was utilized from the original package but I really enjoy piecing together a competitive car and this is a very good platform.

If the track does not have some really long straights, the H & R Hawk motor is a super choice.

Initial testing was disappointing. Changed the axle gear for better ratio and did some of the other mods that was listed. Stripped one rear wheel off the axle, dot of super glue to hold it. Kept the stock motor. Car ran smooth and handled ok. Car was a good 1 second off the pace. I will go back next week with an orange end-bell Slot.it and new wheels that are round and use set screws... :lol: I might have to juggle the gear ratio a bit for the new motor, but that is expected.
