What good is a tool if you don't know how to use it?!

Boy I hate getting old.

In an auction I recently won was an old tool I vaguely remembered:







Doing a bit of research I found out it was Cox puller/press. I can kinda see how to use it as a press, but I don't see how to use it as a puller:







I’ve got a vintage pinion puller and the Ninco puller/press. It’s obvious how to use those. But this one, I’m stumped. Can someone post a picture of it in use?

Turn the fork around, slide it closer to the screw and the motor goes behind it turned the direction it is in the last photo. The concave surface slips under the pinion, and there is a cup with a shaft pusher that goes on the end of the screw.

At a guess (completely guessing here by looking at the shapes involved) I would try removing the pry attachment and turning it over so that it bends down rather than up. Work it down to the base of the clamp. Hook the motor in place, pinion down as before. The pinion will hook into the claws of the pry. The motor can will be in free air. When you crank on the clamp hande the motor will push upwards off the pinion (and go crashing to the floor).

Not an easy thing to explain in words, buy hopefully it's clear enough to try.
