TGIF

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Feb 21, 2014 7:32 am

Well another week in the books. Still doing a fair amount of work down here getting the place "cleaned" up. I guess you can only clean so much and still be a toy hoarder at the same time? :)

New releases are trickling in and should have some fresh reviews coming soon. Appreciate folks sharing their thoughts on models I have not had the chance to look at. That is what a good forum is all about. So if you got a new hot rod in, and want to tell us about, go right ahead.

In the midst of all the renovation, had a big order come in from MT Racing. Full restock on motors and inserts for our wheels. Seems like the custom builds are becoming more and more around here and parts purchasing have become as common as new models for me.

Today is special because a new oval will be born. Heading to RazorJon's to help add to his empire. Need to do a donut run first as I have no time to bake a birthday cake. I'm pretty sure he likes sprinkles, so I'll grab a variety.

What slot plans do you folks have going?

I will literally have 4 hrs of free time this weekend. Really, only 4 hrs. These kids are killing me. So in that 4 hrs span I hope to run my Race Maserati :banana-dance: I can't wait to run it.

BIG HONKIN' STORM just blew through with screaming wind, a huge amount of rain, and almost completely dark outside. I barely got all the loose stuff from the porch indoors when it hit. We're under a tornado watch until 5pm. I never heard of a tornado watch that lasted from 1130am 'til 500pm. Every now and then, it gets dead quiet, then it rumbles again.

If it ever clears, I have two cars to finish up this weekend. First time I've been able to get any work done on slot cars in a while.

The group of guys I race with are racing at my friend Mike's road course tonight.

We will run 1/32 and Ho.

We are bringing a new member into the fold also which is always exciting!

Pulled pork sandwiches, slaw, all the fixins and dessert are on the menu fare for this evening!

I don't know what I'm more excited for the food or the racin!

Racing starts at 4:30 PM today with us usually still racing till 2-3 am tomorrow morning!

You can never get enough of a good thing!!!!

The rest of the weekend is devoted to my daughters competitive ice skating both days.

She has done well in both competitions so far with a 4th place her first competition and a 1st place her past competition last weekend.

It will be a fun whirl wind weekend for sure!

Waytomuch, Do you ever go to Tony's blog section? He adds new stuff there weekly not all the focus of coastal Mendocino County which is the club's main squeeze. I pass new photos on to him when ever, were ever I find them. Because our club's focus is on logging RR's of a single county in California, there is a finite number of pics available for such a small area. I am getting a lot of previously unpublished pics from locals who post them from family albums on the local Mendocino Coast Facebook page.

Packing up a boatload of cars and parts to sell at the swap meet in Cincinnati tomorrow. MoparJenny is coming down to meet me in Cincinnati, and after the swap meet, we're staying overnight.

Maybe, just maybe, doing a little racing with James and his dad, which would be super cool.

.....Put a strip of electrical tape along the length of its back John, it will freak out even more :D

As for my plans this weekend..

....Ive been getting all my bits and pieces together for my foray into 1/24 scale drags. This weekend Ill be concentrating on preparing my motors for the various classes of racing. Lots of water dipping, a bit of messing with 16D's, going to make sure I wont be down on power at least (note to self, must work on reaction times!).

Im also going to make a start on preparing the body of a Revell 1993 Chevy Caprice taxi for the clubs Pro Sportsman class. Going to make the sexiest (?) 1/24 Chevy Caprice taxi on the planet!

Just a couple of quick observations, Plafit motors are great! Heaps of revs, right on the money as far as advertised revs and consistency between samples, very good QC :)

Koford market a handheld digital tacho for $20 something bucks, a really great investment, works way better than my DS rev counter thingy.....

Oh Friday was a fun day. Old hot water service sprung a leak and had to be replaced.

And as His Lordship is at the other end of the state visiting his kids I had made plans to spend the weekend working on a diorama commission. However the vital supplies I ordered on Tuesday didn't arrive. Courier company swears they were delivered and left on my front doorstep on Thursday afternoon. Instructions on my order said for package to be left on back doorstep if no response at front door. I was home all day on Thursday and constantly checking for delivery. I've ordered replacement supplies but they won't arrive until Tuesday at the earliest.

Meanwhile I haven't been able to vent properly at the courier company because their customer service department closed at midday on Friday.

Just amazing that parcels of books and slot cars and wine are left at my front door with no problems. But a package containing two bags of plaster substitute are stolen.

So... Now I have to find other ways to fill my weekend when I should be casting brick walls.
