Cartrix BMW review/thoughts?

I was looking at what looks to be a pretty inexpensive NIB Cartrix BMW Z3 and was curious if anyone had any experience with how they run? I can deal with the front motor set up as far as handling goes - but are the motors/gear set to have speed comparable to a Scalextric on 12v or are they notably slower or?
Appreciate any info you guys can share.
Thanks!

I remember those. The motor is close, but it won't run with most of your Scaleys out of the box. You are running on wood correct?

If it's cheap then all you can do is give one a shot?

They are cool little cars, but as Harry said most Scaley's will out run them. In my experience they are close in performance to cars like the Scaley Caterham/Lotus 7, their Mini Cooper S, and some of the slower SCX offerings. As I'm sure you know there are always exceptions but in general terms, based on the data I have, that is where they fall. I will say they can be a lot of fun racing against each other. Mechanically they are very sound. Years ago, when I worked at the local raceway I had a class for for these and it was very popular. My $.02 - at $25, or cheaper, it's worth it as you'd get good bang for your buck, any more than that and I think you can find something better.

I have two that I got for $10ea. With a set of Paul Gage tires they are pretty good runners and I found them, like the others have said, a bit slower than a good Scaley car.

Appreciate all of the feed back on how they compare "performance wise" guys! When I was looking at possibly picking this one up, I didn't want it to be an issue of "well it is fun by itself... but is soo much slower than the Scaley cars that it isn't fun to run with anybody else".
In continuing to try to find info on these I did stumble onto an eBay link where Rebecca (Artin track) has two car sets of them listed for $30 - which is even cheaper (per car) than what I was looking at for the one that caused me to pose my original question. :)

Again - appreciate the feedback / info and will have to give these some thought! :)
