Help me, guys. Someone did a brilliant how-to about making headlights and taillights from scratch by putting a drop of something on a chrome washer or something. I can't find it and I need it big time. HELP!

It happens, sometimes I forget things that are right in front of me and remember things that never happened !!!
But I swear that I recall such an article, so it's gotta be here somewhere.
If it makes you feel better, I can't find it either.
It probably doesn't make you feel better, because finding it would have been more help to you !!!!
Now what were we talking about ...................?????

Yup. I know the one you mean. Ummm... Whitworthnut did the MG emblem the same way. It was really just a matter of using a drop of clear epoxy for the lens. I just can't recall who did the tute. I'm sure it's in the scratch section though.

yep I remember that but it was not a washer it was a silver jewelry part found in the hobby stores like a link for a chain necklace , then he did a 2 part clear epoxy and did a dome by filling the ring a little over full,
hope this helps Rob

I have seen another method lately, for headlights.
You use a normal hole punch, to punch out some holes in plasticard. Paint them (the punched out bits) silver and then use the same hole punch on clear plastic sheet, like the stuff that you use for vac forms, or even old packaging, use PVA to stick them together and sand the edges with fine wet and dry to get that convex look. Polish them up to with Tamiya cutting polish to take the fine sanding scratches out.

Jon's right, it was jewellery findings that the rings can from. From memory a sheet of paper coloured silver with felt pen was the working surface.
The domed 'lenses' from googly eyes works for headlamp lenses too.

That was the site I was thinking of. I've seen the method that Ted is talking about as well. That one also works fantastic for speedometers and other gauges too.

Something I recently tried and had success with is Testors clear parts cement & window maker. The stuff comes in a 1oz. container and is cream colored but amazingly dries crystal clear. I found it at Hobby Lobby.
