I just got even more excited about my purchase of the Avant Slot Mirage.
Someone posted a thread asking which slot car can be used to beat the NSR Mosler with the 25K Shark motor.
Well ModlerBob and I were at one of our play days and the subject came up. Well I turned around, grabbed ModlerBob's NSR Mosler with the 25K Shark motor in it and put it on his lane. I took out my Avant Slot Mirage, which is all stock, just some minor TLC and a set of Paul Gage tires on the back. ModlerBob's NSR Mosler is setup the same way.
After just a few laps, ModlerBob called "uncle" and we swapped the cars around. He the Mirage and I the Mosler. The contest went on. Quite soon the word "uncle" was used again, this time by me. Now I'm not talking getting a lap in 5 to 7 laps, but you could probably get a lap in a segment of a race.
Then this AM while sitting up with my ailing pooch, I was doing some surfing. I found that Avant Slot has a chassis that is a bit softer then the standard chassis and a motor pod that is harder then the standard motor pod. They also have a machined aluminum motor pod equipped with ball bearings in the rear axle. One of the shortcoming we found on the Mirage was the use of non-metal bushings. Once replaced the car woke right up. However the cost on the aluminum motor pod was a bit stiff at $39.99. So I can make this car even better than it currently is. Hey, for what I am doing with it right now, I'm quite content to run it around our club track and have FUN!
