Very sharp car !

Bob, did you see the Carrera Panteras in race liveries from a few years back? It doesn't take much to make them very fierce. And they look great tearing around the track. There's one livery that is red, white & blue that you may want to repaint, but the others look good. There was a red and black with white highlights livery back in 1980 or so that had gold metallic pinstripes. It might have been a liquor or tobacco sponsor. I always thought I'd do that one, one day. There was a gold wreath on the logo on the roof pillar with a black and white geometric design. I think the hood was fire engine red.

The Carrera Pantera was on the market well before my interest in 1/32 cars came along and right now a new one would cost as much or more than the one from Scaleauto. And to be honest I think I would prefer this more recent offering.

Bob, I think read someplace that this just comes plain yellow and has 2 different sets of decals with it so not only do you get a choice of livery without stripping and repainting you get some decals for the parts box! If this wasn't quite so dear it would probably be on my radar too.

That review of the car appears to keep the magnet in place. A guy at my club has recently purchased one of these and was not impressed at how the car ran on our wood track. It is not a smooth performer and has required a lot of work and some replacement parts to get it to run satisfactorily. That said it does look good but looks don't win races.

An old friend's uncle had a yellow Pantera, so I've always had a soft spot for them. Never liked the version that Carrera did with the big cardboard box fenders, so this is right up my alley.

I am not usually critical, but I have always likes these cars and have even gotten to drive the 1:1 a few times at Willow Springs. Maybe it is just the pictures but the roof line on the scaleauto looks completely wrong in all the shots. It drops down to low to the back panel and the back panel appears to be too thin.

Hope that is not the case when you get it. Bob, you'll have to let us konw how it turns out and post some photos of your own.

Yep. The Carrera car from a few years back was a shape I never saw at the time, but then, I never would have believed anyone would race that car, anyway. It was very delicate in many ways. The son of our local Ford dealer had one, and I climbed all over it the day it was delivered, as I happened to be there getting parts for a company truck. Johnny was a few years older than my crowd, and he went through high performance Fords like candy, so we all were accustomed to looking for what he was driving when something new and hot showed up in the magazines. His was maroon, but there was a goldenrod yellow in town, too. When the engine cover/rear body unit was up, it rocked in the wind, with just a little breeze. When you opened the doors, you could feel them flex, and the strut for the front deck never did line up to move smoothly. But when he cranked it, love happened. That engine was equipped with an exhaust that must have been designed to hypnotize car lovers. With all the doors and covers buttoned up, it was solid as rock, and the rumble of that engine is something you just don't forget. I have only seen pictures of it, but there was a deep metallic forest green available that was stunning. Nearly all the ones I saw were yellow, red or orange.

I usually stay away from Scaleauto because the cost of their excellent bodywork is just too much for me to justify, but I always had a soft spot for that car and I think I must have bought at least one of every slot car anyone made of it, including a couple of homemade HO TJet car bodies that could be mistaken for chewed gum when viewed from just the right angle. I gave in to Scaleauto on a few cars over the years, and I have yet to run any of them fast because I don't want to take a chance on messing them up they are so gorgeous and expensive. Sooner or later, I'm sure this one will find its way to my house, whether I think so now or not!
