Hi Bobby, I have been making tires for about 7 yrs now.
I started off just like the ones in the picture, that you posted.
It is fun to make your own tires, but the costs to get started with mold making silcone, tire making urethane, and the dyes for the colour can be expensive, and there is a learning curve that will create some waste tires.
If you are just doing it for yourself, there is a shelf life on the silicone and urethane .
Having said that, it is fun.

If you want to learn, I never discourage that.

I'm with Dave though - I have enough on my plate and Paul does an incredible job. I'm ok with him being Master of Tires and me just the Igor of the resin world.

I still have my tire molds. I made silicone tires after being taught by Mr Indy Grips and some others. Yes, it's easy to do. And yes, you get good tires. And yes, you can make molds for drivers, spoilers, and even wheels if you want. I make lots of drivers and inserts - they use up the last drops of resin from a body casting. So plenty of little parts sitting around.
But I never made anything as grippy as SuperTires (we use silicone, not urethane in our club) and Paul Gage also makes great tires. So it kinda depends on how much you want to experiment with compounds to try and match them (and I gave that up a while ago).
Give it a try if you want...it's fun if you have a bunch of cars.

Oh yes, I did a few times...oh wait, that's my page! LOL. It's good thing I wrote down all the steps on my website since I would forget now...but the concept is simply enough - get some good mold-candidate tires, use the latest mold making material, allow to set, remove tires (can still be used if desired) and then start making urethane tires for as long as you like. Pick a color too!

Best of luck...it's a lot of fun and more rewarding than you might think at first...to know your cars are hooking up on your own mixtures of chemicals!
