Getting ready to go get off the rock to travel to Cali for a race. What do you guys bring for a race and do you check it in or is it carry on when you fly? Any hassles w/TSA about your slot car equipment? I am finalizing my list and was wondering what else to bring besides the cars and some spare parts and tools.

When I fly to a race, I check a bag with whatever tools I want to carry, but my cars and controller(s) go in my carry-on bags, as I don't want them exposed to Airline baggage handling!
Some folk suggest carrying a slot car magazine in with the cars and controllers, just to help explain what they are, but I have never had an issue explaing to the TSA what they are. Just no tools of any type in the carry-on, that sets them off real quick!
TSA sometimes have opened a checked toolbox, looking presumably for hazardous substances. Usually I carry the small tubes or bottles of fluids like flux, oil and braid juice in small zip-top bags packed in with my toiletries. They don't look much different to other similar tubes of cream or eyedrops or whatever and don't arouse suspicion in the X-ray.
Where in Cali is the race?

Like Dave I usually just ship my stuff when I fly. Too much of a hassle anymore so the less I have to worry about the better.

Before I fired all the airlines, I used to ship my stuff ahead, too. When they have human-sized seats and no fees for baggage, they may re-apply.
