Cool! When is it going to be available at the Ford dealer?

The finish is terrible, but that is fixable. It is a symptom of the process. Some sanding sealer and
wet sanding will create the smooth surface. Glad to see Ford backing the hobby. I hope that
interest converts to licensing cooperation.

Very cool!!!

I've found sandable filler/primer isn't enough to completely get rid of the rough texture. I was at Super2ner's a few weeks ago and Bob S. was there from MCR magazine. He had a body that a gent is doing on Shapeways and selling. While nice and a well printed part, if you are looking for a "good" paint job, you've got some prep ahead of you. If you layer on the primer and keep building it up you'll loose the shut lines and details. If you sand the body, you'd need to ensure that every facet of the surface is smooth.

I'm currently working on the next RMS project and this is always a battle when dealing with 3D printing. I could use it as-is but my customers would be screaming. Oh, and a little side-note: if you cast a body that rough, the millions of rough surfaces do not want to let go of the silicone rubber. Each casting is a bear to get out of the mold.

I have noticed that most of the 3D rendered slot cars I have seen here and elsewhere are a bit too rough for my taste, at least as presented. But I guess a rough likeness is better than no likeness at all.

Once again it depends on what type of machine you are using. An FDM machine, which uses plastic
filament, leaves a much rougher surface than a true 3-d printer, which uses powder. The latest lexan
bodies from Chicagoland Raceway were done over forms made on an ObJet powder type machine, and
very little follow-up finishing was required.
