Hi Bob
The Carrea car is an older version, but can run quite well when tuned.
The Auto Art has a lot of unnecessary wiring and electrical bits on the motor.
First thing I would do is get rid of the 3 resistors across the motor and throw them away.
They were intended to prevent radio and tv interference in Europe.
Then if the wire is long enough, go direct from the guide to the motor tabs, and see if that stops the motor from smoking.
If it still smokes, it could be due to over oiling in which case the motor needs a bath .
If you ar not sure about the motor bathing, let me know and I will give you a quick course on it.
Its easy as pie.
All, the best
Bob

The Carrera is an older PRO-X digital car. That was the first designs for the cars.

It is not unusual for a motor to smoke a little if it has been sitting for several years. This
is just contaminants from the air that have settled on the comm. A small squirt of lighter
fluid into the brush end of the motor while it is running usually clears this out. Don't
forget to re-oil the bushings afterward.
