Reegs,
Hey there, no reason to think about ignorance, just unfamiliarty.
BTW - Welcome to Home Racing World. The best forum for slot cars that I know of.
While I do not have a PM controller, I do have several DiFalco controllers and they all have sensitivity controls on them. So, what do they do?
If you have ever driven a slot car with a controller that was either too high or too low in resistance, you would not be able to use the entire controller to adjust the speed of the car you were trying to drive.
The sensitivity control on the speed side will let you adjust the starting voltage for your car. Normally I will move the trigger so it is just off of the brake portion and on to the first spot that the car moves. I hold the trigger in this position and adjust the speed sensitivity so the car will move at a speed that will guarantee the car will make it around the most difficult turn on the track. Then when I'm racing, I know that I can simply go to that first position and the car will make it around any turn on the track.
Basically it lets you tune your controller to work with your cars. For those who race many different categories, you only need a single controller and that controller will work with all of your cars.
I hope this helps.
