Carrera Superbird Car Question

Question about Carrera's 1970's super-speedway cars: Road Runner and Charger. (The ones with the nose cones and high spoilers.)

Can the nose cone and high spoiler be easily removed? (To make the car into a dirt-type car.)

Carerra make a standard Charger 500. Wouldnt that be an easier starting option? Or are you wanting to convert an Superbird that you already own?

I have the #30 Charger and getting ready to order the #58 car. However, I'm still one car w/graphics short so the entire family can race. So, I thought if I can pop off the nose cone and tail fin, I can have another dirt-type car that is already decorated in which to use until that point in the future I want to strip it/ modify it and make it a sure 'nuf dirt car, or use its chassis under a resin body of some sort.

At this point in time, there just isn't a large variety of Carrera D132 stock cars to purchase from dealers (or on the used market, either), so just looking for a way to acquire enough pre-decorated cars so we can get into action. (There will be 5 of us racing at one time.)

Yup, that's what I've got in mind.

Downside: Only the Charger aero car is available at LEB Hobbies.

I doubt the front end parts are available for a Charger, but I can live with the open grill area and no bumper for now.

I saw some non digital Carrera Nascars on ebay but I'm not sure how easy they are to convert. I know the wings come off the superbirds very easily.

My most recent Carrera Charger (non-aero car) is a pair of the #30 cars offered a while back. Aside from the recent #58 car, were there any Charger 500's since?

Not sure what that would be, so when you say some improvements, what are they?

I see no difference between #58 and the last #30 Iggy car. Rubber is new, but the blend has been in use for a couple years.

The chassis has changed from the very older cars for digital. But all the recent cars in the past 4 years have the new chassis?

Well, the rubber they are using now is actually the softer "race blend" they brewed up a couple years back. I know it's used on the newer cars now.

Thanks to all of you for your input.

I have placed a $159.96 order with one of the forum sponsors for enough stuff to get all five of us up and running on my D132 set!

The above will give me enough RTR cars, controllers, and the extension box needed, to start racing. I can then finish my "in progress" dirt car projects as time/mood incline, without hindering the ability to race ASAP! Won't be long and the dirt trackin' mayhem can commence!

I was going to ask the same question and then came upon this thread. Does anyone know where to get the resin grill and bumper for the non aero version of the car? I was thinking of converting a few to the non aero version.
