SCX Pro Porsche Deal ON Ebay

Postby Nor Cal Mike » Sun Aug 10, 2014 12:46 am

Thought I would pass this along. I ran in to this deal on ebay while browsing this evening. It is a 4 car case of SCX Pro Porsche's for
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1208622941 for $69.99 plus $9.99 shipping. Each car comes factory sealed in the original Pro box with all of the spare parts. I bought one case. There are more of them if anybody is interested.

What am I going to do with four identical SCX Pro Porsches? I am going to kit bash them. I have always liked the pro cars. I have one Audi LMP Pro chassis set up with appropriate Slot.it wheels with a 76 Camaro body on it and she is one of my quickest best handling cars.I have 4 of the pro Nascars. It will be interesting to see how this short wheelbase chassis works compared to the others.

Never played with the SCX pro cars - in fact the only real SCX's I have in my stable are the Cudas.
Did they do like Scalextric where the bushings/axles/etc are a different size - or are those parts interchangable?
Thanks for the info - and appreciate any insight on the interchangeability! :)
(might be a great source of spares!)

Somebody has a SCX pro racing Audi LMP on ebay right now at a low price, if it is still there. I just don't care for their motors. Too inconsistent.

I have been buying a lot of the bankruptcy liquidation sale SCX stuff on ebay for some time. I have bought quite a bit of it from Jimmswm and yes, he is very good to do business with. In fact, I was headed for his store when I bumped into this. He has a 4 car deal for $100 with free shipping and an even better deal for a dozen but I rarely can can afford to fork out that amount of cash on slot cars at any one time. But this deal coming in at $80 total shipped for four cars beats Jmms price by $20.00. I will have to see if it is worth the 20 bucks to go with an unknown seller. Ebay is a crap shoot in that way.

Bob, The Pro cars use a completely different motor. It is quick, too quick for the small Porsche, by RM's review. Unlike what Scalextric did with their Pro line, SCX uses the same sized axles as all of their other products. However they do use set screw gear and aluminum insert wheels all around. I have heard complaints that the aluminum is to soft and are easy to bend but I haven't had any trouble with them personally. They use a completely different chassis than the standard and use a screw in guide set up that is similar to Slot.it's. If you like magnets, you won't like the Pro cars because they come without magnets and there is no pocket to mount them too. They have a pod that is a bit different than the rest as it is designed to slit back and forth on acceler/ decelleration against a shoe that rubs on the crown gear for extra braking. I generallly run my tires as close to the fender openings so the backward and forward movement doesn't work for me. A dab of shoe goo at each front corner of the pod limits for and aft movement while still allowing some give in the pod.

As I said, I will kit bash these cars. I have a couple of C6 Corvette, (1 MPC model kit and 1 Fly) bodies looking for a chassis The will likely get 18k motors installed if they are meant to go on my road course. I also have come 3rd Gen Camaro model kits I have been saving up. They could become road cars or oval cars. If they wind up on my oval, I like my cars quicker so I will run a little hotter motor in them. Perhaps in the Slot.it orange bell range.

Wow, kinda hard to pass that deal up. Thanks for the heads up! I picked up a case myself. Buying compatible parts alone in the quantities each car has would cost more than that!

This 4 car deal is from Bryan Young, mfg. rep for SCX, so I think its OK. and yes, I bought 4 of them, will repaint them into an IROC set.

SCX Pro cars have an extra pod in the box that is made for fk180 motors like a Slot.it boxer or a lot of the long can Nincos. I have an NSR King in my Nascar and it is by far the fastest of my four stockers.

I keep hoping for a blue Barracuda with the Pro set-up, but if Bryan is selling these, I doubt SCX will ever make any more Pros. Their parts are good also. I've used a lot of Pro crown gears and wheels on scratch builds. The pods can also be used for scratch building if you drill a small hole in the three tabs and mount it like you would a Slot.it or any other, with screws. I've never had a problem with their wheels, either.

Sounds like a good deal, thanks for the head's up.

I bought two cases. They are just as described. I'm going to experiment with different gears, motors and so forth, and these are the perfect platform, and maybe do up an IROC set. There aren't many left. Super deal!

Short of taking a micrometer to the rims does anyone know what Supertire or Paul Gage these cars take? They don't show up on the Supertires finder over at SCC.

I got my case a couple of days ago and have cracked open one car. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet but I have a pretty good idea how she will run. I have five of the SCX Pro Nascars and they are pretty darn quick and handle very well. There is a lot of adjustment potential built into the chassis so making them run should be a no brainer. I haven't gotten around to the wheel size yet. They were smaller than I expected. They might use the same wheels as the Nascars but don't quote me on that. If they are the same, they are a little under the standard 15mm. I suggest that you shoot Paul Gage a PM and ask him what he has. I am still running the stock rubber on all of my Pro Nascars except one. That one was only because I bought here used and she came that way. The stock rubber works pretty good on my wood oval with chalk board paint. I haven't run any pro cars yet on my wood road track. It has an oil based stain surface. Might be able to test this weekend.

our 4 showed up over the weekend. I haven't done much with them yet, I'll paint the bodies up into some fantasy IROC series scheme or maybe a modern version of what we did with the 73' RSR's on the proxy forum. Could not pass up that deal though.

From what I recall from reading Harry's review on these cars several years ago, to save weight these bodies are actually clear one piece affairs that were painted at the factory except for the clear areas. In other words, the glass will not come out. They will have to be painted as you would a lexan vacuform body. That'll make it a little harder to do repaints.

Well I broke down and bought another case. :naughty: I just couldn't take it any more. I decided to IROC three Porches but still need the chassis that originally were intended for the rebody projects. Once I decided on the IROC, four wasn't enough. :violin:
