resin car advice

Team, need your wisdom and knowledge. Was flipping around and found a web page for George Turner kits. Fell in love with both the auto union and mercedes cars, but I have zero experience with resin kits. Thesekits would be a hefty investment so I need to decide if Im up to the challange. Would something like RMS datsun 510 be a better start (sctually owned one way back)? Also any suggestions on motor, gearing for a 40 ft sport home track.

I can second Shotgun on the George Turners ( I have 2 I'm getting ready to start) the RMS cars are exceptional (and Shotgun's aren't too bad either :mrgreen: ). The one bit of advice I can give is read up on body prep and TAKE YOUR TIME, you can't rush a resin (ask me how I know!). Good Luck!

Bob I have an RMS Datsun 510 on my bench, a great piece I am getting ready to work on
I don't have one of Shotguns yet but understand they too are great kits.
I do have some George Turner Kits on the go also.
All are great kits.
But the stretch from a 510 to a Classic f1 is a big one.
So all things being equal what do you want the most?
The George Turner Instructions are good for generaly all resin cars.
But if you need to grind and file, I would recommend you where a mask so your not inhaling the resin dust.
As Shotgun pointed out the GT kits have a chassis included, but if you want to do the kit justice you will need to get the right wheels etc which may be a bit more costly than T/A wheels.
I will be using the Peter Seager Thomas PST wheels on my old Bimotore car.

I would definitely recommend one of George Turner's kits as a perfect starting point to your resin building career. The finish on them is superb. Most of them come with the parts for a resin chassis, or you can purchase a kit with a Richard Mack chassis for a car that will be absolutely unstoppable on the track.

There are certainly a lot of resin casts out there that I would not recommend for a first build attempt. While there are some very good casts out there there are also some very ordinary ones. For your first build you want something that's presented to you without a lot of air bubbles to be filled and without a lot of decisions to be made, like how to go about mounting the shell on a chassis. Choose something (like one of George's kits) that will be easy to build and achieve a good result. This will give you the delight and confidence to try more.

I made the mistake of trying a less than perfect shell for my first attempt. I was so disheartened by the experience that it took me 3 years to attempt another one.
