TGIF - It's starting to get interesting

Postby HomeRacingWorld » Fri Nov 14, 2014 4:38 pm

Well, what a week! Had a lot of time this week for 2 special projects and they are coming along nicely. Locoracer Tom is coming tomorrow and looks like even more projects are going to start.

But looks like new releases are hitting us hard this week. SRC, Slot.it, Scalextric, and the Carrera models of course.

Product reviews will be forthcoming.

Tapatalk for Android/Apple mobile updated as well. If you use a smart phone or tablet, try using this app. It works well for this forum as well as others.

Hope all of you are having a good one and that your weekend is A FUN one.

Not a good week family-wise. But time to rest and recover some equilibrium. And how better to do that than a night of smooth jazz last night. Lucky enough to be given tickets to a performance of a visiting jazz quartet last night. Not had the opportunity to do something like that in ages.

Today, I'm spending a bit of time on a Lotus 24 build. It's finally beginning to look like a car. I'll post it up when it's a bit further along.

I was able to work from home today and it was nice not having to be bothered with people LOL! I got alot done, so my employer should be happy.

I am doing some resin work this weekend and am installing a cold-air return to the furnace in the basement since the previous owner finished the basement and didn't do that. Makes a huge difference on the temperatures down there. That'll take an hour.

I have the new Scalextric Cougar showing up so that will be getting some love for sure.

I do have something tomorrow that I'm really jazzed about though! Growing up, my dad did software for most of the Apollo missions (8-17) as well as Skylab. I've loved anything space-program related since then.

A few months ago, my son - the brilliant Lt. Reinecke, read a book as part of his schooling that he knew I would like: "Failure is Not an Option" by Gene Kranz. Anyone who has watched the excellent Apollo 13 movie knows that Ed Harris played him pretty straight. Well, said Lt. gave me the book to read and it is simply fantastic. I lent it to my dad as he met Mr. Kranz (who once gave him a personal tour of the VAB at Kennedy) and he too loved it. A month later, my dad calls me and asks if I'd like to meet Mr. Kranz. Seriously? You have to ask? A good friend of my dad's is part of a Special Forces Group that is having a dining out and Mr. Kranz is the keynote speaker. We've been invited to go. As a thanks to my son for the fantastic book read as well as re-kindling a love for all things space, I'm having his book autographed by Mr. Kranz. He doesn't know we are going and since he can't be here, he's going to appreciate it.

Oh, and my Broncos should destroy the Rams on Sunday. Life is good!

Finally finishing up a project that has been taking longer than expected, due to my shoulder acting up in this cold weather. Should have some pictures in a day or two. Sure hope it warms up some. It's a little early for this weather. :)

I'm planning to make a 3x5ish HO permanent sectional track with Atlas track along with landscaping. Also getting my buddy motivated to get into slot cars. Fun!

Massive cold snap and big rain coming here. I have a lot of winterizing to do. Our severe cold weather doesn't usually hit for months from now.

Dunkeld Races yesterday. Horse races that is. Biggest day of the year for a pretty little town. Glorious spring day. All the lassies out in their finery, most getting quite drunk.

His Lordship took a limo load of clients from about 150 km away.

Sky came over very dark just before 3pm and a heck of a lot of thunder right overhead. I sent HL to go rescue them. He didn't quite make it before the rain dump. 15 mins of rain so heavy you couldn't see across the road. I think the clients were a bit drowned. But all they wanted was the pub. :)

Well I raced Scaley's on Thursday, today was Carrera day at Niagara Hobby.
Was my 1st time racing a Carrera car, my yellow Ferrari.
I came in 5th of 6 racers. Well I found out those Disney F1 cars run 21 rpm's and I think my car was an 18 rpm ?
Also...the shop doesn't sell Super Tires for my Carrera but the rest of the guys ran silicone's.
They run races based on age and it's always great to see the kids racing.
Tomorrow (since the Buffalo Bills aren't playing), I will be at said track racing Carrera/Scaley Trans Am/Scaley GT Lightning / and a 22,4 short can.
Then....Monday night...the weather forecast is for a foot, possible 2 feet of snow. Snow blower tuned and ready !!
Stay safe and enjoy the weekend.

I'm plumbing today. I am in the middle moving an instant heat gas water heater only about 3 ft. but it is in a different room separated by a wall. That means hot & cold water, gas and the flue pipe to be connected in to the old plumbing.

I still have my Maserati Birdcage on the bench. Body is mounted It is now time to work on the interior. the real Birdcages had a very minimalist interior with lots of tubes but not much else. Even the driveline was only covered by a little shield. The seats mount directly to the tube chassis which is exposed I think that I will do this car the same way.

I got delayed as I went sailing yesterday and then had to process and post the pictures of that for the rest of the crew...it's an interesting old yacht, once owned by Burt Lancaster. At 82 feet, she's a honey. But now it's time to work on some SMALL scale stuff! Good thing I am taking tomorrow off to rest.

Here's a summary of our Saturday on the West Coast:
