Just lucked up and got me an Aston Martin DBR4! Been wanting this one.

This one may turn out to be just like all my other Legends grand prix cars, it will need some work to be right.
I like that part! RTR Cars are rarely actually ready to run to me. Some PG tires and and all around tune up has brought my others into a competitive state,so i see no reason why this one would not be the same. That was a great post on your rebuild!
Mine have all received very similar upgrades, with the exception of the guides, i have yet to have issues with the OEM guides, maybe i have been lucky, or maybe they just like my old Strombecker track slot?

We always run a class of these in our club, and use Urethanes and a bit of tuning like goosenapper.
Always a slow motor about 15 k. It is one of our closest groups, certainly the most fun.

Yes, that is just how things go here. A milder motor is just as much fun, if not more so IMHO.

I have tried something a little different with these, I had yet to re-motor any of them, as i turned the voltage down to 8.5,and use 25 ohm controllers. They are amazingly easy to drive,for the kind of car that they are,and have great scale speed on the straights as well.

We race Cartrix classics as a class and I bought the Aston. Getting it to run smoothly was as described above, part of the fun.
The car was given a glue and true regime with no parts needing replacement. It ran well enough to be mid pack.

I liked the Lotus and bought a used one. It was slow and very noisy....again after several working sessions (changed the pinion and crown) it is now faster that the Aston.
The Lotus has smaller rear wheels and this allows the motor weight closer to the ground.....equals better handling.

Another purchase was the Ferrari Squalo(?) but it came with a ridiculous motor. I have tried to find a genuine replacement 13,500rpm motor but no luck anywhere.

These cars are great fun and I have a couple of others in my sights that I would like to get hold of.

The one i just got (not in hand yet) is in the tin box. i guess it is a collector series? dont know,dont care! mine will be raced.
hopefully it will be at least in the same ballpark speedwise as my others, if not,it gets fixed.
I dont know how i got hooked on the vintage GP cars, but they are a hoot to drive. Not at all like the rest of my stable. I suppose its the challenge, but they are some of my go to cars. I also am hunting a couple of the known suspects in that collection. I have the common ones, now starting on the ones i missed out on. those are the ones bringing the big money.
even the Talbot is going for about $25-30 above its sale price not long ago.

I don't have that Aston - I have a Penelope Pitlane one - and I just acquired a Cartrix Ferrari D50 - it will be under the tree this year.

If you love these cars I would recommend looking out for the 'In Camera' series of books

Formula 1 in Camera, 1950-59 by Paul Parker is a fantastic book

Another option is to look at George Turner resin models - they work out a little bit more pricey than a standard Cartrix but they are great cars.
