Not really. There is a large variation in the tracks that these cars will run on; length, surfaces, technical vs fast, etc. I would gear tall, since these are small motored cars (14k rated rpm).

My Porsche 356 Speedster is all built. I used the same plastic Ninco chassis as last year with the flavor of true period correct skinny tires :auto-driving: . Note, although the chassis is plastic with a Jack Rabbit conversion, there is some brass hanging out on the rear! Body is resin and significantly lighter (ShotgunDave sponsored-thank you!)

It just needs some primer, paint, decals and testing. I'm on it tonight and tomorrow, should be soon Allan! Hopefully it makes it down before Dec 4th... :roll:

Hi Thompson,

That 356A cab looks like it will one nice car when it's finished up. My wife has a 1:1 356C cab and we both love the look of that car. As they say at Motel 6: "we'll keep the lights on for you............"

Looking forward to seeing it in the paint; don't forget to take some photos before you send it off.

Thank you for the kudos on the decals Allan. All the scale model building and different renditions just look so fantastic, really cool stuff. Glad to be part of it in a way that my professional career can help.

Tech tip: Some of you that build resin bodies, here is a tech tip I've found that works to strengthen the underside on areas that get thin or need structural integrity and building up. This method makes the resin stronger, flexible and keeps it lightweight and retains the thin area for that all important wheel clearance.

1. Sand the resin area to roughen up smooth surface.
2. Cut a piece of 300+ thread count cotton bed sheet to fit the area (I used an old Ralph Lauren silk screened section!)
3. Spray glue 3M super77 to the back side of the cloth.
4. Lay the cloth bed sheet section down to the area and burnish in well.
5. Use medium CA glue and soak the cloth. Wipe off excess with paper shop towel and hit with activator.
6. Done.

:text-threadjacked: Tony, there's a story behind that car. This was like a "car guy's dream come true" I was watching an afternoon TV show one day when my wife (Marty) dropped a pic of a car in front of me and said: "now there's a cute car"! It was a champagne yellow Porsche 356 cab with a surfboard sticking out of the passenger's seat. And the game was on.............this was 1998.

I searched the entire country for a champagne yellow cab and finally found one at European Collectables in Costa Mesa, CA. I faked a business trip and went out to look at the car. It had been stolen out of a garage in San Diego and the thief had blown up the motor in the process of escaping. So, there it was at EC; in need of a motor and some body work. With the insurance money from the claim and a check from me, EC started a complete restoration of the car.

When it was done, I had it delivered to my local "old Porsche" shop in Devon, PA (we were living on the Philadelphia Main Line at that time), had the local florist make up a huge red bow that we put around the car, told her we were going to dinner that night and, on the way to the restaurant I just happened to stop at that shop; under the guise that I had always liked to look in the window of that shop. I got her out of our car and up to the window; the guys on the inside opened the door and there it was - her "new" champagne yellow/black/black Porsche 356 cab!

It was a night to remember.........!
