The MDM went "under the knife" yesterday. I ended up using Don's tires (thanks for the discussion, chrisguyw), glued them on with silicone gasket glue (my newest favorite tire glue..........), changed out the braids, repositioned the guide, rewired for positive polarity, added some thrust washers in the rear to help smooth out the drivetrain, re-weighted the car, filed/sanded the body a little more for tire clearance, etc. Today the tires get trued and then..............we'll, see if we can get down from the current fast lap of 12.004 seconds..............! :P

Here's a pic of the chassis after the tune-up. The tires were urethanes, so probably as Don remembered them; Paul Gage PGT's. They cleaned up and trued up well. I brought them down to 19.40mm, so that there is still plenty of clearance to the 18mm spur. I re-mounted the body, gave is some float to help neutralize those big Detroit fender swings, and we were off...........



So, we're back to 30 strong now, with two more '57 Detroit models to come from Todd after the Holidays:



I ran some laps with the car this morning. Here's how it did:

It was mostly tire prep, Bob. With the treaded slip-ons, it was a like watching an ice derby car without studs on the tires!

Yup, and when Todd gets his '57 Fairlane in the mix, it will be a trio of Fords taking on the rest of Detroit, as well as the European sports cars. Should be fun to watch!
