I love the idea Headhunter, but I need to win the National Lottery first!

You 1/43 folks are not alone. There is a very small band of slotless enthusiasts around the country. These are folks who collect and race the old Tyco, Aurora, and Ideal stuff from the seventies through the nineties. (There are other brands as well.) There is not even a regular forum or e-mail list, we just sort of stumble across each other from time to time.

As far as costs and travel, I used to race with two T-jet clubs, which meant that I went to races twice a month and sometimes more. Some races were seventy or eighty miles away, one way. I did it for several years, and the travel just got to be too much. And this without the costs of food and motels. I also used to do as many as ten train shows a year (my other major hobby) and tired of that as well due to costs and time away from home. One thing that I have learned is NEVER to take the costs and problems of travel lightly. No matter how well you plan, there is always the unforeseen.

I still race T-jets with a few friends, maybe once a month, and I play around with slotless stuff. The slotless equipment allows me to challenge myself without travel or having a scheduled race to go to. Not the best solution, or the most desirable, but it works for me.

It might help to put your location in your profile here at HRW. Then like minded racers can see if you're close by.

at home i only race with the kids - when they race with me, occassionally enough ...
i´m with Lloyd!
a win in the lottery would help for this project.
a few years back, the 1/43rd racers nearly made it to arrange a gathering ...
the active board members are spread around the US/Canada and Europe, we have Roland from downunder, california to florida and many more ...
a real challenge, but i really love the idea so!

Yep! travel would be a problem for me ($$)

But if you want people to come race at your home maybe you could do some flyers with your phone number on it & distribute it in your own town at place like shopping mall parking lot? just an idea...

It's NOT a 1:43 problem. All scales are just like it.

A good friend of mine, ModlerBob, had built a raceway - prices were outstanding $000.00 - and he still could it have a regular race program.

My own 1:43 home track "Martin's Ville Raceway" has had a total of7 races on it, mostly family racing, in the almost 4 years that it has been in existence.

I would love to utilize the track more, but since it is a 4 lane 1:43, it serves a purpose as a test track for 1:32 & 1:24 cars. Yes, it is like running a Fuel Funny Car around a Go-Kart track, but it is in service.

Let me know if we can come up with a great idea.

Love the idea of a gtg... But the logistics are rough. The first couple years I had maybe 3 legit races with more than 3 people, but lately we've been at it every other Saturday night. We let the kids race till about 8pm, then send the wives to drink their wine and keep the kids occupied. After that we can usually put in a good 5-6 hours of racing a different class every other week GT or DTM, and always have some open races in the mix. Usually 4 or 5 guys but somebody usually brings a buddy.

I think with all slots you really have to take initiative to get some racing going. I love racing with my wife and kids, but throw in your buddies, bbq, and beer and you got yourself one helluva good time... And they always want more :music-rockout:
