When is the last time you did the Loop-D-Loop??

Postby ourwayband » Tue Jan 12, 2016 6:18 pm

I have built and raced on wood tracks for the extra smooth surface along with wide borders for that added non mag racing..Lots of fun,but I find my self, maybe my much younger self, drawn back to some of the other types of fun this hobby and scale have to offer.Wife tells me one of the things she likes about me is that I'm still a kid when it comes to hobbies,in other words ....toys.. ;)
Just recently picked up the Carrera Race around the World set used.Thought the cars were cool and needed some extra track. While checking out the set I came across the loops.
Reminded me of my early hot wheels days and the Mongoose and Snake set.If your close to my age you will remember these too.

Well I thought what the heck, lets try out the Carrera loops..Set up the track as shown on the box and got to racing. Even with the cars and stock power supply, fun was had.Found my self laughing out loud as we tried to make the fastest lap and make it thru the loops with the turbo button.

My plan is to look for some more fun ways to enjoy our hobby with mainly stock components so the Parents and kids that opened up a Carrera 1/43 set for Christmas can join in the fun.
Next up demolition derby... ;)
Guys if you have any cool ideas please post !
It's all about having fun..

That is one big track. One of the coolest deals is the fun their having..

Looks like I need to dig out some more loops.. :)
To be honest Mickey we drag raced mostly with out the loops on the old Hot Wheels track too.
The Carrera seems to work much better.. ;)

Remember them, hell I still have mine. I have a bunch of vintage Hot Wheels stuff from..... well when I was a kid. Lets just leave it at that. The loops, high bank turns, the building with the rotating wheels that would propel the cars at warp speed into the loops and around the turns. My son has had as many hours of fun with it as I had and it still works. He is 12 now and will still get it out and play with it for days before we make him clean up the miles of track running all around the house.

My son also got a Carrera 1/43 set with the Ferrari F-1 cars and the 2 single lane loops for Christmas 2 years ago so it hasn't been long ago that I did that either. What he always loved was running the track through the loops and trying to time it out so he was going around the loop as I was driving through the middle of it.

My son and I have had many hours of fun with booth. It's the only way rug runnin sounds like any fun to me at all.

my younger son really likes the loop-de-loops. he got a big box with artin track parts in his room and eventually builds up a track, also using the loops. The big wood track in the basement is not used much lately.

i remember loops like the yellow one Rusty´s shown above - but also many more like those. the sets were called "Darda racing". a very, very good spring motor did the trick. Those little cars, around the size of the usual matchbox car (1:64?) were very fast and smooth. many, many hours of fun!

Oh man, I had so much hotwheels track when I was a kid! We'd string it all throughout the house, and I even had two of those power-house things that would shoot the cars through it and down the track. I loved that stuff. My brother and I used to love hitting each other with the track pieces, which were like rubber swords, which would eventually end in a fight, and would end the session.

I remember one of my favorite things to do with my HO track when I was a kid was to detach the main straight and elevate one side of it, making a jump ramp. Then we'd try to see how high of a ramp we can make and still successfully land the cars back in the slot. Hours of kid fun with that, and my brother and I used to do that all the time.
