Ferrari 158 Diecast conversion

Postby BARC 1 » Sat Feb 20, 2016 3:43 pm

Well I finally found the car that I thought would make a nice diecast conversion. All in the car weighs in less then 40 grams, and should not be a strain on the small M class motor. Not a scratch build so I thought I would throw it here.

It runs very well and the style of car means the diecast is not a hinderence and in fact the weight probably helps this small car. I have yet to flip it going into a corner and it is in fact very stable. I will be on the hunt for more of these older F1 cars now that this has turned out so well.

I had to mill some of the frame for the gear and make some clearance for the " engine".

What type of voltage are you pushing on those little m20s?

I am running a stock Carrera wall wart. I think it puts out about 14 Volts, but the car only sees that voltage for a brief time down the front straight. They get quite hot after a time so I am sure they will fail at some point.

With no magnets there is not a lot of strain put on them and they seem to be doing OK. I have used them in the last 3 chassis. The Porsche 906 went real slow after an endurance run, but I let it cool down and it is fine again.

So some caution and a failure should be expected when running these.

Nice. I was using some at 9v and they would get quite hot after a bit. Never lost one while I was on the project but was wondering if they would pop any higher than that.
