Going to the darkside ... for my day job!

Postby nerfbarz » Sun Jul 06, 2014 8:58 pm

In anticipation of our new commercial slot racing venue adjoining the hobbyshop at which I work, I have been assigned the task of constructing some 1/25 rental machines.

As soon as I re-engineer the body mounting system, a Camaro-bodied slot car based on the old Revell Bob Senneker ASA entry will be completed. Ron Bouchard will pilot the Red Baron Pizza-sponsored ride and the running gear is from the AMT Charger slot car kit.

The wheel wells on the Charger have been radiused and the door slots have been filled in. The car will carry the Hobbytown,USA livery. The guts will also be AMT slot car- based and Mopar Jenny (who else?) will be the tribute hotshoe.

I plan to cut down a '32 AMT Vicky into a modified using H&R innards.

All of the racers will run semi-complete interiors; lots of DG GI Joes and Iron Men are being repurposed into drivers.

The owner of the store used to run carpet racers for Schumacher, among many interesting career experiences. He loves R/C but is a devoted slot racing guy.

My 1/43 aluminum banger bodies look great as do the sheet plastic shells for my three-wheeled Reliant Rialtos. I would post pics, but the latest version of PB is frustratingly difficult.

PS--This job is so cool!

some great news, Nerf!
when you get used to the new PB, it´s even easier than the old version (i did not like the new version at first, too!)
looking forward to see your builds :D

Sounds fun, but a bit fancy for Rental cars, really just need some Parma's (or whatever) and some lexan, bodies!

Build the good stuff for yourself to play with, that way you won't be crying when the kids tear'em up!

The hard bodies are from the boss's garage stash but I've decided to go with the AMT running gear. Uncle Sal own some stock, and...

The AMT will likely work flawlessly with the Hard bodies, but the Parma's woudl be kid proof!

Try a 2 ohm, 5 watt resistor on one of the motor leads on those slot cars.

Cuts down on flying slot cars for young renters!

BTW - the .040 lexan Parma rental car body is bulletproof.
