ProNoMag 2015 - the results

Postby pfuetze » Sun Mar 01, 2015 1:27 pm

Welcome to the ProNoMag 2015!
This year, the usual suspects and also some new faces showed up at the Desmo to have a proxy race and, hopefully, some fun.
The customs office got Broman62s cars and was not willing to release them for the race, sadly. The post office needed more than one week from DE to AT for Jan´s cars (i think they are playing with them over the weekend!), so his cars are also not entered in the race.
The rest of the cars has been parked in the parc ferme and have been watched with interest. This year, some really, really nice cars have been entered.

Enough words, let´s start the race:

Image

START!

Image

Image

Sven - Aston (Kyosho body, TechnoSlot Chassis)
13.5V, 90 Ohm
the stock SCX tires did not allow fast lap times. Axles have to much play in the bearings, gears are smooth.
fastest lap during Qualifying: 14,195 - DQ

Image

Image

JoGo - Lancia Stratos (Resin body, modified Go Chassis)
12V, 90Ohm
vibrating all around, too much play in the axle bearings, tires not true, but fitted with LED lights while driving. Quite fast, but could have done better.
The combination of the stock go!motor with go bearings is a really, really nice combination for running no magnet on a wood track!

Image

Image

Image

WoodBoss- Lamborghini Murcielago (Kyosho with modified Chassis)
12V, 45 Ohm
smooth running car, but too much weight in the front. constantly in the search of grip and very tail happy. The guide is in stock position, not the best one, for my opinion.
Nice car, gives a feeling of the original - much power.:D

Image

Image

WoodBoss - Jaguar XKE (ResinKaro auf scratchbuilt styrene Chassis
11.5V, 45 ohm
A really nice looking open top car. After releasing the body screws just a little to allow some movement, the Jag could even be driven. Somehow the car is jumping under hard accelaration, otherwise it´s really smooth.

Image

Image

Carsten - Porsche 911 GT3 (Go! with SlideGuide)
14.8V 90ohm
the front axle is too long, like on a stock go! maybe most of the vibrations are coming from there. A nice handling car. Under full load and speed, the car gets nervous and starts jumping, the driver is not amused. Overall nice to drive, but with potential to even make a great car.
Stock go! componets work great on a wood track. CoG a little high, too.

Image

Image

Julian - Porsche 911 GT3 (SCX)
15V 90ohm
with such cars, it is real fun to race. good controll, nice balance between power and handling. front tires not sealed, so in the bend after the back straight, the car decides to go on 2 wheels only around the bend, but even that works. Impresive.
Runs nice and smooth, but i open the body screws just a little again. :D

Image

Image

Image

MasMojo - Tuner (SCX)
15V 90 ohm
tires sanded a little, as the car stood on the shelf for some time. As MasMojo ticked the box "extra service" on the 7-page entry form, i did it ;) A little oil for the axles and the Aston lookalike was on the track.
good to controll, the wide rear stance lets the car slide just a tick too much. Again a very smooth car.
Great paint and decals. :D

Image

Image

Image

Lloyd - Ford Torino (Heller Kit with scratchbuilt Messing chassis)
11V 45ohm
The ford is a real nice car with a little problem in right corners. On straights and left turns, it´s smooth as silk, but in right corners, it starts to scream like hell. Even a little oil on the axles and a grease for the gears did not make a real difference.
The guide has more movement to the right than to the left, so sometimes, it throws the car out of the slot if overdriven just a little.
In the race, in lap 19, the soldered motor mount broke and i could not fix it.
Sorry, DNF

Image

Image

Image

Sven - Xsara (Heller Kit with 3D PrintChassis)
12V 45ohm
After fixing the body mount of the Xsara, the car was ready for the track. As a rally car, it seemed to miss jumps. The chassis offered so much grip that the rest of the car could not handle, that the car jumped really high under hard accelaration. The deep guide kept it in the slot anyway.
The paint and decals on the Xsara are extraordinary, with wheel inserts it would have been a clear contender for the concours de elegance. front tires have not been sealed, so.

Image

Image

JoGo - Porsche 962 (Kyosho Karo with 3D PrintChassis)
11V 35ohm
After adding some spacers to the body mounts, the car was ready for the track. tires not glued or sealed. I do not favour the Kyosho X-speed motor, it has a 2 stroke charakter, not the best decision for the bends of the Desmo.
paint and decals are very very nicely done, but with clear windows, it would need at least a black drive tray. body is sitting a little too high in the front.

Image

Image

CarGo - Porsche 962 (Kyosho with 3D PrintChassis)
14V 90ohm
very stiff cables to the guide make the car tricky in tight corners, full concentration is needed, otherwise it will step from side to side under accelaration. Nice and smooth to drive otherwise.

Image

Image

Tomato - Porsche (ResinKaro auf homeprinted chassis)
12V 45ohm
a nicely made car, very short and wide. cables to the guide may have been softer. takes to time to get into this car, but the Porsche runs nice and smooth. And the longer the race lasts, the better the car runs. Looks like it has not been driven much before the race.
Nice work on the homemade body and chassis! Even great paint and decals!

Image

Image

Image

Julian - Mercedes DTM (SCX compact)
15V 90ohm
SCX compact cars make great cars for racing on a wood track. Sanded the tires a little, as it looks like the cars has been on the shelf for some time. Very nice to drive, heads fast deep into the corners, with the right amount of power out. Open the body screws just a little to allow movement.
Very nice to drive, i don´t need more in a 1/43rd car to get happy :)

Image

Image

JoGo - Mercedes DTM (SCX Karosserie with SMC chassis)
11V 45ohm
Always in search for grip. The SlotDevilMicro chassis is metal chassis from Slotbox. The car feels heavy and is not really willing to stay in line. With the front wheels only touching the track and not supporting any weight, it is not bad to drive, but also not good. Too much drag on the guide.

Image

Image

Sven - Mazda 787 (Kyosho Karosserie with SMC chassis)
12V 45ohm
body mounting from SMC is not my cup of tea. screws with counter screws that grip into foam rubber. may work on bigger scales, but not good here, i had to adjust after every single touch with landscape, deslot, etc.
The cars is better to drive than the Porsche from JoGo, feels a little lighter. Not bad. aber ein bißchen besser (leichter?) an als beim Mercedes von JoGo.

Image

Image

Image

CarGo - Porsche 911 GT3 (Carrera body with SMC chassis)
12V 45ohm
The Porsche drives very good, a little better than the Mazda.
A clear candidate for the Concours de Elegance. Clear Windows, driver figure, roll bars, wheel inserts, very nice paint and decals.
An awesome car!

Image

Image

Image

Uwe - Mercedes DTM (SCX Karosserie with SMC chassis)
12V 45 ohm
The Merc feels even lighter than the Porsche and the Mazda and drives just like that. body mounting is very loos, every touch of scenery makes the need of readjusting the body. Drives very well, could be better if the front tires support a little weight...

Image

Image

Andreas - Mercedes SLS #3 (Resin body, scratchbuilt Messing Chasssis)
10V 25ohm
the motor is fast - a little too fast. A milder motor could have been better to drive. But on the other hand - just like the overpowered original :)
The Merc is the first car ever that revs up in the compression and falls into braking before the turn on the front stretch. Runs nice smooth and fast.
The paint job on this car is awesome. clear windows would add to the overall look.
The chassis is convincing, nearly perfect. Lighter than the SMC chassid cars, but more weight than the printed chassis cars. Nice body mounts (snap in over pins).
Great looking and great to drive - fun!

Image

Image

Image

Tilo - Mercedes SLS #33 (Resin body, scratchbuilt Messing chassis)
10V 25 ohm
A dream to drive and to look at! Everything fits, windows, driver, paint, decals, wing, wheel insert
and the driving of this car is even better! You can enter the turn at amazing speed and on the exit, the car picks up speed like there is no tomorrow.
In lap 18 the wing caught the guard rail - and disappered.
In all other aspects - just fun driving!

Image

pfuetze - Porsche 962 (Kyosho body on 3D PrintPodChassis)
15V 90ohm
just switch driving to dynamic mode - crips accelaration and braking instead of weight. The car exists turns at awesome speeds.
Porsche runs only for reference (as it already ran last year) - only wanted to try if it still fast after standing on the shelf for one year, with simple oil procedure and a quick sanding of the tires. :) it still runs fast :D

Image

Image

pfuetze - Mini John Cooper works (Tiefgezogene Karosserie auf scratchbuilt styrene Chassis)
10V 25ohm
There is an improvement in dynamics possible? The Mini shows it on the track! only the higher CoG takes it tribute.
nice to drive and runs smooth

And now - here´s the point that everybody wanted to find and scrolled over all the rest of my much words ;)

Gratulations to Tilo and Andreas!

For the question what happened to the blue Mini: the driver did not start, he got distracted in a strange way ;)

Tilo did built the nicest car, the Porsche scores 2nd and 3rd place for Sven

Thank you Peter, both for putting the PronoMag 2015 on and for the excellent report.

I much prefer the way you did the concours this year.

Now, back to the drawing board to get ready for next year!

Regards, Lloyd.

Thanx, Peter that was great, My little tuner unfortunately confirmed my hopes and fears, good solid, smooth and reliable, but not too fast! :violin:

Still, I guess I can't complain it sat in a box for the last 2 years or so and went straight from that box to the shipping box! Not too many cars can do that! :music-rockout:

Hope those motors are working for you! :auto-driving:
