Hi, figured I'd introduce myself and get a few questions out. My name is Mike, raced slot cars in my youth. Recently scored a box of artin stuff at a thrift store thinking it'd be good for some family fun. Last night I received some cars and as expected it's already a hit. I can already tell that I need a 4 Lane track. I'm not afraid of building one myself but have a few questions. I have a few 1/8th inch bits on the way... How deep should I route the slot? #2 what is the tightest turn I these cars can handle? I'll probably pick up some flags and modify my cars, but just while I'm in the planning stage I'll keep it in mind. Figuring I'll pick up some MDF soon and put some practice in before attempting a full track.
Lastly, I picked up an artin f40, would love to do a #7 shell car, does anyone know of a good source that can make custom decals? I haven't been able to find any so far on my travels
Seeing some really awesome stuff here, hope to contribute some myself soon.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, Mike!
The 1/8" bit is a good start, used it for my wood track, too. I routed 6mm (app. 1/4") deep. The tighest turn on my track is around 2", but that´s very tight. 3" are no problem for pin guide cars, but with a little driving experience, even the 2" are no problem. Adding guides to artin cars is quite easy and quite necessary on a wood track.
Patto´s place is a good source for 1/43rd decals. there are some places in germany, too.
hope this helps for a start, there is more :D
ciao,
Peter

If you're able to find photographs of the decals you want, you may be able to make your own with Testors decal kits and a color printer.
Welcome. Enjoy your cars!

Thanks ecbill, my computer went out almost a year ago, since then I've moved to pretty much just smart phone, though I can print I'm fairly certain I'd need new ink first. Lol probably just cheaper to buy from someone with the capabilities

Thanks everyone, still trying to read through all the cool stuff here.. Looking at some of my models going "I should convert that" lol.
And on that kick, does anyone make a good set of mini lites? I've seen some inserts but was hoping that there was a full wheel out there
Thanks
