Carrera 42001 Black Box, for use only w/Digital 1/43

What is the purpose of the Digital Start Track? Would this be a replacement for the Analog version? Does the Digital version have the Resistor limiter for the controllers embedded inside?
Just have not been able to neatly open the Analog track to remove the Resistors.
