Time for some to go..in Buy/Sell forum

Since I've had a problem dealing with some thing with the hobby for some time and quit building cars I've decided to sell some. I got a PM from a guy on SCI last week asking if I'd ship to OZ and I said sure. Hes interested in my custom cars and SCX cars. Basically, cars with guide blades. I'm having a problem thinking about what to charge. I haven't sold much of my collection except for a few of my double GO cars and I let them go for $7-$8. I've got $50-$60 in most of my customs with the costs of the Shapeways chassis, dslot43 running gear, steel bearings, the model car bodies and Patto's decals are all figured in. I can't figure my work because I enjoyed doing it. Paint is cheap. I can't really include extra for the dNano bodies($30-$35each), I bought them just because nobody else had them :)! I'm thinking even though they're 1/43, I'm going to have to ask $30-$35 each for my 1 of a kind custom cars like the Camaros and 57 Chevys. Maybe $25 for the Legends of Racing with SCX chassis, $30 for the repaints. I said SCX, not fast lane. I had to hog out the rear wheel wells but they still look cool. I've got the bunch of dslot43 never been run 917s too, maybe $35. After he picks what he wants, I'll put them in the buy/sell forum.

Geez Bill, that sure seems a bit harsh to me to give the materials away. I've followed all your builds and you've put your soul into these cars. You have created unique 1 of a kind custom built works of art. I guess that I can understand not being paid for your time but to give the cost of the materials away just doesn't seem right to me. You know times being what they are, if you need the coin you have to do what you have to do, but if you don't it seems only fair to at least get covered for your costs. Anyways Bill good luck in whatever you do.
Best of wish's

Thanks guys. Money isn't a problem Randy. I'm into Legos now and I might have bought a few small kits for the under 8 grandkids, I've spent thousands on the big stuff to keep grandpa's mind and hands busy. Of course as with all my former hobbies it grew into a huge addiction.

Glad to see that coin is no problem Bill. I don't do FB or any social media, but I have seen a bit of the Lego builds that you have posted on these forums and they are astounding. It's easy to see how they would add up. :)

Actually, what ever the market will bear is what you can expect, Bill. "Some" websites are selling DSlot43's really cheap.
Custom cars are hard to pick a price to sell, but you work is WAY above average, so just go for it.

I don't see any resale value in the stock dslots Chuck. I noticed I didn't make it clear that I was talking about my 917 repaints. LOL

Wow Bill!
Those 917s look really nice!
If I ran 1/43 cars I would be honored to own some of them.
Good luck with your sales but if it were me I think I would regret selling such beautiful cars you put the time into.

Bill, I guess I am not 100% clear on which cars you are selling? BUT, I would not sell them for less then you have in them (materials wise). Before you quote a price, ask what he was expecting to pay for them!?? I think $60 $65. each for a custom Dslot is the LOWEST I would go and $80 would be better! As you said, your cars have most if not all the upgrades AND the time you put into them! Even @ $80 each you would be losing money! Near as I can tell; they are not making Dslots anymore, so once the spare stock that is out there dries up they will become sought after! 8-)
NOW, If you were hurting for cash, That is another story!

Thanks for the advise guys. I took back my offered prices for my custom cars and the guy was very understanding. "I think the work you have put into these beauty’s should be recognized, and I’d be happy to pay what you think is a fair price for the customs". I'll think about it and be fair because I'm not using them and it won't be long before the cellar stairs will be out of the question for me to even get to my track.

I worked out some prices with him and we're both happy with them. $50 each worked for the Shapeways chassis cars. I got your PM Bill and I sent you my email, let me know what you're interested in.
