Carrera GO 4 lane parts.

Hello, I am asking this on behalf of a newbe to 1/43 in the UK.

Are special parts required to make a 4 lane Carrera GO track?

Not especially other than the different radii curves and that can be circumvented with 2, 114mm straights per radii. To do an analog lane change 12 cross track pieces will be needed. To power the other 2 lanes a second power connection will be needed and the cable can either be run under the track, or the layout can incorporate a reverse crossover (figure 8) and the power connection can be placed in a convenient location after the crossover. Use of the 4 connecter power connection will enable direction preferences.

I have seen a photo of track built a while ago now with neat 4 lane corners. I don't have a problem setting up 2 lots of electrics but the curve do worry me as there seems to be precious little information about parts available and less information on parts advertised.

What parts will make up a curve that go round the existing curves ? I must the say the little set I just bought seems to have tight bends.

Well it won't be a fixed layout but i guess if we get to 4 lanes it will have to be setup the same each time.

We started experimenting with 1:64 micro scalextrics at outdoor events to raise money for charity. I bought a load of used track and had limited success at keeping it going so we worked on a donate if you liked it basis. Wen I had to take the thing apart last time as it would not work I decided to move to something more reliable so decided n 1:43 Carrera as we need to use the smallest track we can to get stuff to fit in a 10x10 foot gazeebo and still have a nice big track.

when it worked well we made money and had to ask people to let others have a go, so I've decided it's worth investing in some new track and then maybe charging for a set amount of time with perhaps a timer on the controller, this is where I began thinking 4 lanes because once we are at full capacity and charding x amount per 5 minutes 4 lanes means we make twice as much as on 2 lanes and it's all going to charity.

Thank you Chuck. Unfortunately a bit far to phone. Looking at the photos above do I see three different bend radii?

It would seem perhaps that all three are commonly used? I've been looking around at a few sets, and some of them seem to have wider bends than mine, so it would seem I have the tightest bends available in this particular set. It also means that potentially unless I wanted to change bend radius throughout the same track that I could have six lanes?

I will need to start small and slowly grow. I've already lost a load of money on the micro Scalextric track which I've probably paid more for than I should have and will just have to sell for whatever I get. Banking on the fact that the new track from the Carrera Go series will perform much better from the get go I will probably invest in a cheap extension set and we can start to make some money so that I can take a percentage back to pay for further track expansion and eventually get to 4 lanes.

Hi Sparky welcome to the 1/43 world. Fantastic charity idea. The different radii available for Go plus the quality of the track is what makes it the system to have. The 3 radii shown are

61617 R2/45
61645 R3/45


The R1 is the most common set radii with R2 being in a few sets. I have yet to see any R3 track in a set, However all 3 are readily available as upgrade packs.

With the information Randy provided you can go upto 6 lanes. Buying direct from Carrera is one of the cheapest options in the US. It may be in the UK too.

Do you have a good place to shop or used sets or track? I've gotten a lot of straights, controllers and power pasts that way.
