First: The D3D guides were not PLA. I believe they were either nylon or carbon fiber impregnated PLA.
Second: the guide design (hole size and placement) and tongue design matters, as well as printing orientation. A brass tongue can break several designs when rotated far enough.
Third: printing parameters matter, since they can impact layer adhesion and this strength.
All of this aside, I am not here to defend printed guides. I don't sell them, I don't care. I just know they work well for my home track cars.
Finally: for what it's worth I know you can get carbon fiber PLA, but it's not something I have used at this time.
Bottom line: print if you like, buy if you like.....build slot cars either way.
