Was wondering if any one has designed a step up tool to measure chassis height? Something similar to what ScaleAuto sales that has different thicknesses.
Just checking
Thank you

Are you talking chassis to track clearance?
If so, You could take an old piece of track, then cut a rectangular slot in it just outside the rail. The slot is just large enough to slide one of the detailed steel pocket rulers from harbor freight up though the slot from the bottom until it contacts the chassis. Read the ruler at the top of the track surface. Probably need a small flashlight to read it. If you’re like me you also need some reading glasses.

Short lengths of K&S piano wire in different diameters works fine too, and there are a lot of sizes.

Also, K&S brass strip is available in some of the thicknesses you might need. Unfortunately, they don't make strip on .040" or .050", but those thicknesses can be found at a metal supply store, there are usually some small bits in the remnants bin.

The step gauges are fine as long as they can reach where you want to measure.

I find the Scaleauto gauge is only good for the outside edge of the chassis/body. The other 90% of the chassis the Scaleauto gauge will not read.

I have used piano wire and feeler gauges as the others suggested which which works the best.

I really like what we use here. This gauge will pinpoint where the low spot is on a chassis be it motor, pod....whatever. The small screw head on the gauge is very precise and feels the slightest resistance.
Local racer / architect Richard built this for us. This can easily be built by anybody...

Pictured is my portable version. The measuring device has fine thread screws on each end to read 1.0mm and 1.2mm chassis height, these heights will never change unless I turn the screws but I do not need to as 1 or 1.2mm are very common height requirements for me to measure. The car sits on equal height stands and allows the racer to look from underneath easily to see the point of contact with the screw head........but usually you will feel the low spot very easily.
