So, I just installed a 12v Piranha 21.5k motor in my Carrera 1/24 911RSR and Audi R8 LMS. I used Devis3DDesigns Carrera 1/24 S-Can motor adapters. The switch was easy. Those motor adapters are just plain awesome! The results were great for me. I now have two cars that run 6.5s on my 60ft track at 12v. They are smooth and much more predicable to drive. Breaks are also improved on these heavy cars.
What I have done to each car:
Porsche RSR
Front original wheels trued with my Razor.
Front tires glued and trued.
Rear wheels trued.
Rear tires replaced with Paul Gage XPG Urethanes.
Audi R8 LMS
Same as above for wheels/tires.
Replaced guide assembly with a Carrera to Slot.it B-Nova adapter.
Slot.it Deep Wood Guide with screw.
*I wanted to try this to see if there was any advantage over the spring Carrera guide. I have not noticed any difference thus far.
I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.
It was very easy to do and I can now run these cars at 10-12v. The Piranha motor gives the cars good response, but with manageable torque. The Paul Gage urethanes offer good grip, but are also forgiving with a slide should you overdrive the car. De-slots are less violent and without the snap of the Carrera guide popping out.
There really are some cool products out there. I am excited again about 1/24 and I don't have to spend $160 for a car. :music-rockout:
Now to do some testing. The Porsche seems to be about .1-.2 faster. It also weighs almost 2oz less than the Audi. I may have to add weight to make them more even. Hmmmm....
