zoom zoom RX-3

Postby chris » Tue May 17, 2016 6:25 am

A Fujimi RX-3 with an extended Womp chassis and an old Mabuchi FT-16 for grunt. I really wanted to use the kit wheels so I grabbed some Pattos alloy rims but they were a fraction smaller diameter than the kit wheels. I cut up a Coke can to make some shims and epoxied them inside the wheels. Now the alloys were epoxied in and spun really true. As a bonus the kit rubber tyres give surprisingly good grip

Driver is a repro resin item, a roll bar made up from the chrome sprue, rattle can paint and Pattos decals.

I love the RX-3...

Funny about you using a Coke can, when the car was always described to having Coke Bottle Styling...

My 1973 RX-3 was the most insane 1:1 car that I ever owned...

P.S. - I wish someone made this body in 1/32...

That is sweeeeet!!! I want one now. Can you tell me how long the wheelbase is and how wide the body is across the flared wheel arches front and rear. Want to see if it will fit a chassis I have.

Great looking car, I can just about hear the "bamp bamp bamp" sound a ported rotary makes at idle.

That is a great rendition of a great little race car. When I was racing SCCA the RX-3 was a staple of small sedan racing and you could find them all over at VIR and Summit Point. I remember one in particular that was used by a team as a rental car, it had been used in this way for about ten years to partially fund the main two car team. Except for the occasional wash job and some new tires the car was rather maint. free. The last time I saw this car a fairly new driver rolled the car and it was destroyed. He gave the owner the $2,000 that was agreed to in the contract for replacement cost and when I was leaving the car was sitting at the back of the paddock with a sign on it saying free to a good home. That was the last I ever saw of that car and I wondered if the crusher was able to crush the roll cage.
