3 new Carrera 124 releases

There was so much fuss over the 330 and the 917 that this one came in under the radar.

I picked these up at my local hobby shop yesterday and they are all gorgeous! The Porsche GT3 has great details, and there is a depth to the finish on the 917 that just has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Similarly, the 330 carries a very dark and rich red that complements the body very nicely. These cars are very well done.

The chassis on the 330 is the older style, complete with external magnets, simulated suspension on the front axle, adjustable guide height screw, and enormous metal weight in front of the motor that also is what the case mounting screw attaches to.

Essentially, it's just as highly tunable as the old ones used to be. Take a look at Harry's old review of the 330 in the archives. You're getting the same thing. Personally, I never changed much on those and so the new chassis found on other current releases works just as good for me, but for those who've been missing these options, they're back here.

I know that I'm getting a great car from Carrera, so it was neat to see a little surprise in the case department. These were all sealed with tape that sports the Carrera logo!

I guess it's the little things like this that get me excited these days.

On the unimportant yet notable front, check out the cars advertised on the back of these cars' cases: (all three releases look like this)

All but the Gesipa 917K are no longer in production. That's a bit odd, but I guess they have some old stickers to use up!

"In Production" is technically not the way to describe this. We do a run of cars and that's it. So unless we do another run of a car they're all not in production. In the catalog would be a better way to describe it. Once a car is not in the catalog anymore (for that calendar year) it's out of production and discontinued. I know this is splitting hairs but I figured I'd mention this.

Yes we added that piece of tape at each end to keep the case together AND to show whether a can has been opened or not.

I had not opened up the 330 i have as a sample to check differences in the chassis but if it is older as you say that would make sense since this is a "re-pop" of a mold from a few years ago. So it would just be a re-issue of the original mold.

I was overjoyed to see the 330 re-appear - now I have one to run and one to admire!
The shade of red is wonderful.

Thankfully the Porsche 906 hasn't arrived yet - gives me time to save up again.

Loving these cars.

Bruce,

The U.S. Mail brought me a package today. Inside that package was what I consider the most beautiful race car ever built - the Ferrari 330P4.

After sitting and enjoying the appearance of this car, I headed to the test track.

Flipping the switch and hitting the throttle did the Digital to Analog set up.

This car runs as good as it looks.

Thank you.

Dave Kennedy,

Do you think Carrera can process this car into a 1:32nd version. I will pre-order one today!
