The following pictures show what happens when you try to use automotive paint products where they don't belong...

I never do it, and I know better. I used Duplicolor clear over my polished and perfected Tamiya lacquer and decals. It wasn't labelled "dull coat" and sure enough, it didn't dull the chrome at all. But it frosted the windows, dulled everything uniformly, and the largest decal crackled so badly that it fragmented into 18 parts. That's why you can see blobs of blue paint on the hood. They fill in the gaps.

Worst of all, the car runs like the wind. Its fast, handles great, and I can't just toss the body. The body is the balance, I think. No weight needed, no nothing. It just flies down the track. There's no way I'm not going to race this thing. But trust me- it was gorgeous.

I can't believe it. The car had to be thoroughly washed and rinsed to get the remaining oil residue from the Duplicolor off it, but two coats of future later, it actually has enough shine to pass muster. New windows by Coca-Cola bottle, with painted on details for braces, etc.

Oh yeah :) Bad or good finish, you got a runner....I say race'em hard and make the other guys cars look just as bad: last place.

If the car runs like the wind then run it,run it hard and make those shiny ones look bad.

You can always tell people this is what it looks like when he does victory donuts.

You could always say. "You should see the other guy!" Love that car. Makes me wonder how awesome NASCAR would be today if they went back to racing 70's and 80's "stock" cars today.

I appreciate the sympathy guys. I remember seeing everybody else's experience with FUBAR car projects, so I thought I could be as brave as the other guy. It looks a lot better than it really is in the pictures, if you can believe that. Up close it looks like one of those military models or train models. You would think if the stuff was too hot like that it would effect the decals differently from the paint, but its completely uniform. The chrome is unaffected.

The series the car was prepared for requires the H&R 26,000 motor, which I have never used before, so I ran it in underwater (by the way, has anyone ever mentioned that running it in this way is much more effective if the pinion is on the motor?). And I polished the gears too, as the slower motor needed all the help it could get, I thought. But whatever did it, this is one very smooth H&R. I'm going to go back and look at some of my older H&R's to make sure I did the same things, because if I did, as I think I did, this motor is the smoothing factor. It could be that I accidentally hit a very nice combination of motor, gears, tires, and body weight distribution. It figures it would be ugly as homemade hubcaps.

Yep, that's what I keep saying, but I got soft and gave into peer pressure, I guess. I won't vary from my Future ever again, I promise you!
