H&R/Brass ProTrack class

There seems to be a great deal of interest in improving the performance of the old ProTrack brass chassis or the H&R. I began running these cars in the early 2000s with Cheetah (or Deathstar power for tracks like the Blue King). The cars were inexpensive and provided the young adults at the Prescott, Arizona High School club with the opportunity to set up the chassis, maintain the car, paint and detail the plastic model bodies. Most of the students were interested in NASCAR so we ran NASCAR bodies (although some of us built muscle and Trans Am cars). We raced these cars weekly for about 3 years. Over time we migrated to a set-up that included static pans, a soldered front axle tube and nail polish for the front wheels. Our conclusion after testing was that that the three simple modifications resulted in an improvement of about one second per lap. When we moved to Oregon, I joined a group of racers at a local club track, STR. One of the many classes we race is a ProTrack (old brass model/H&R NASCAR). As mentioned above, to get the best out of these chassis we run with static pans. Below are a few images of these cars.

Just different approaches around here. We tune/build them to where they run quite well without the need for pans. But then again, we are not using foams anymore either.

Lot of diversity in our hobby. There is no wrong way, only the way you enjoy it.

I had never seen the Dodge Dart model until it was posted on HRW site. Interestingly enough, another rendition of the model built by local racer Terry showed up at our "Dirt Devil" (DD) race at STR last night. The DD class allows for bodies to be lowered with the only stipulation being that the driver tray cover the motor. The chassis for this class is custom brass/wire with o-Ring fronts and .790 rears. The unscale look is not my favorite but when in Rome.......

Superglue the front tyres instead of using nail polish. Lasts forever and it has less grip compared to nail polish. Do the wife a favour and leave her nail polish alone. :lol:
