What is the difference between the two motors? The deathstar 16D has part no #501 and the 16D is #500. So I assume there must be a difference? number of windings, gauge wire, magnets??

They look like complete motors to me?? Both in Parma packaging. One says 16D deathstar the other 16D, both with different part numbers? So is there a difference?

If one is listed as 16 D Death Star, that is air gapped at .600, higher timed, and is produced for Stock Spec classes on commercial track at 16 volts. 16 D motors are home set motors designed for small wooden home tracks or home plastic track on 12 volts. The Death Star Motor have more torque and rpm than a 16 D motor. Both can be run on home tracks but the Death Star motor will make economy controllers run hot and will typically burn up the winds around the resister barrel that the wiper sweeps across. Economy controllers really should have epoxy coated resister in them, as these will be able to accommodate mild commercial track motors, or use controllers rated for these motors.
Hope this helps.

Thanks KsR...we are getting closer to the truth but no prize yet. The home set 16D has part number #458. This has part number #500-S (I gather the S stands for sealed). I though the 0.600 meant that the armature stack was 0.600" long compared to the S16D which is 0.490" long and nothing to do with the air gap??

Both these motors shown in the photos are old motors. Parma stopped using that pink condum on sealed motors over 10 years ago. I believe the 16D will have the thicker, but weaker 16D magnets, while the Deathstar has thinner, but stronger EP (S16D) magnets. Both arms should have the same wind but the timing on these Chinese arms varies between 15-25 degrees. As MG said, the Proslot SpeedFX is a better sealed 16D in the same price range.

Thanks so far for the help. Im stuck with the "Parma deathstar" as that is what the class restricts me to.

Over the years, I've run in several "Deathstar only" races. In a field of only themselves, the Deathstars provided some competitive racing. If allowed by your local rules, I'd change the motors to aftermarket brushes & springs.

Oh... I thought the Deathstar was just prone to exploding at inappropriate moments killing thousands of innocent civilian workers.
