Hi Allan, The rules indicate that the front tires are to be no wider than 8mm..............I have just measured 4 new Scaley F1 cars still in the box ( 2005 McLaren MP416, 2007 Ferrari, 2010 McLaren MP421, and the 2013 Lotus E21) all of which have very scale looking width front tires, and , are well detailed.
None of the stock tires on these cars come close to the 8mm proposed width, with the tires ranging between 10.6 to 11.2 at the tire bulge.
These cars are al pre the 2016 season when the tires on the 1:1 cars actually became wider.....I have not measured a "new: scaley F1 front tire as of yet, but, if even remotely to scale, they will be no narrower than 11.2mm
Does it seem wise to have to hack perfectly good (and to scale) front tires down by 3mm??

As well I did not notice a minimum front tire width ??

I just measured the front on 3 Scaley F1 cars from different years; a 2013 Ferrari, a 2014 Mercedes and a 2017 Williams. The front tires ranged in width from 10.5mm (Mercedes) to 11.2mm (Ferrari) and 11.5mm (Williams). In addition to that, the front wheels on each of the cars were 10mm or greater. Frankly, my 14x8 wheel Rule was driven by what I've used before on F1 cars and that's been driven by what has been available from CBDesign.

I'm in favor of scale realism in 1/32 slot cars, so lets say that the front tires can be no less than 10mm and no more than 12mm in width. Let's also say that the front wheels can be no less than 8mm and no more than 11mm in width. That would cover the spread on the 3 cars that I just measured.

If there are Scaley F1 cars that racers want to enter and if the stock dimensions of those cars are outside of the proposed new Rules for front tires and wheels, then I would tend to handle them on a on-off basis. I don't think that we can make a general scale determination with regards to the front wheels and tires that is significantly different than what was supplied in the stock Scaley F1 car.

The intent here is to prevent the use of oversized tires and over-wide wheel tracks while, at the same time, supporting the general concept of scale.

Allan, I called a few folks in our club, and no one has a 2005+ model year Scaley F1 car with front tires less than 10.6mm.......the narrowest seems to be the 2005 McLaren MP416 at 10.6mm (incl. tire bulge)...........so, why not keep it simple and say a minimum of 10.5mm(incl. tire bulge). for the front tire.

Allowing an 11 something mm width front tire to be reduced to 8mm is more than a 25% reduction, it is not to scale, nor should an entrant have to ruin a perfectly good pair of good looking, scale front tires, in order to be competitive.

It is after all a modern day F1 series.......no harm in having it look like one ;)

PS To keep things really simple. you could mandate that the cars should compete with their stock front wheels and tires (glued and trued)..........this would provide the most scale looking front ends, would be the same for everybody, and would keep cost down.

Thanks ffor all the work you are doing to set this up. It is one of the most complicated classes i can remember. Most of it caused by F1 in 1:1 who seemed to change things yearly and of course albeit a year behind, so did scalextric.
