Just a few thoughts....
I love the 917/30 and i had a spare body and an old brass chassis that i intended to use so my only cost would be tires (lots of questions) and entry free.

I did a quick mock up ,and the narrow track looks goofy under the body, not to say it cant be done just not right.

I am not a great builder but i would like to have a fighting chance to make a good showing and my current parts reduce my odds
I still may run the 917/30 but know i'm looking for a Mclaren M8 (pm if you have one to sell or rent!)

My last comment is about tires , after several searches it looks like NSR Ultras are the best choice can any body provide more insight or alternatives?

I was going to repurpose my old SCI CanAm entry... To meet the rule, the edge of the tire would need to be like 3mm inboard from body on both sides. Just wouldn't look right. I'll stick with my #2 request... Cheers

Courtney, PM me I have a Slot It M8 body, chassis and pod. You will need to supply the rest of the goods and the price will be reasonable as I want all who want to participate to participate.

I took a quick look at the Tech Summary spreadsheet for the Group 5 Proxy. I used to do that kind of thing for the VRAA, in the belief that it could help all entrants to improve their building skills. I wish we had that kind of data for this CanAm Proxy, though I know how much work is involved in compiling it. Anyway, a couple of things stood out. The cars are generally heavier than I would have imagined and the motors are quite a bit more powerful, though perhaps one begets the other. The question is: which is the chicken and which is the egg? :think:

Also, at what voltage are those races run? Closer to 10v or to 12v?

Voltage for Group 5 is between 10v - 12v

Rob (cgyracer) is the keeper of that beautiful and detailed spreadsheet. He does an amazing job.

I would pay more attention to the rear axle speed than the size of the motor. There should be a link to a video I did somewhere when I did the tech inspection and measured the RPM on the 2019 GRP5 cars. The data is also recorded.

As a host of the Forums Cup Proxy for over 10 years I have analyzed how the top 5 to 10 cars perform on my track. As well as how they performed over all. One class went to a spec motor, min weight and spec tire. You would think if you could figure out the average gear ratio you would be close to building a top ten car. Well it didn't happen. Not for me at least. I have been beating my head against the wall wondering what I am doing wrong. Going from a consistent top 10 car to now being a bottom feeder on all but my home track. RichD over on SCI stated you cannot tune on a plastic track for wood racing. As I looked back at the earlier days of this proxy 2007 most of the tracks were plastic. Today most are wood. Read the charts and do your best. I have struggled in the Group 5 proxy trying to imitate the top 10 cars. Will I get there? I sure hope so.

Looking forward to seeing you in this proxy. There is stiff competition. But then I like trying to beat the best. Shoot for the stars and see where you land.

Arrold I haven't even thought about gears!

I only have a Carrera track and it sounds like you have a wood track do you host any club races where i could come and test and tune?

I cant seem to find the link for the G5 proxy sheet , i did watch the video with the inspection from the last race (it was not that boring :D )

I run on Scaley Sport Track. I do host the Forums Cup in Oct or Nov. Chattanooga is my fathers home town and I have cousins there. If I can travel 2 hours to Louisville to race going to Chatt is a no brainer. I have been farther.
