Awesome teaser. I’d forgotten about that movie. I’ll have to check it out - probably on YouTube.

Great opening - and the only time a McKee MK10 ever sniffed anything like the front of a race. Would make an interesting door stop tho' :D

Gentlemen - the qualy results are in!

Bob Bianchi came down from SCC to do the honors. Each car got a 10-lap acclimation run, followed by another 10 laps for fastest lap and 10-lap average. Tires on each car were swiped on a sticky pad before the trial run and, again, before the qualy run. The qualy was run in the middle (white) lane and Bob was at the controller for the entire field.

Before I get to the results, here are some pics of this year's field:

And here are your Round #1 Qualy results:

Order / Car # / Fastest Lap / 10-Lap Av / Comments

25 / 8 / _ / _ / No qualy – pinion and spur not engaged

24 / 20 / 7.090 / 7.25 / Tire chatter, loose, tippy, good brakes

23 / 6 / 6.584 / 6.61 / Sits high, a little loose, tire chatter, tippy

22 / 47 / 6.533 / 6.61 / Tire chatter, loose, up on 2 wheels in corners

21 / 4 / 6.293 / 6.38 / Needs more brake, some chatter, a little loose

20 / 9 / 6.290 / 6.44 / Loose, tire chatter, good brakes, hops a lot

19 / 5 / 6.265 / 6.32 / Tail wags, a little loose, stays in the slot

18 / 99 / 6.232 / 6.28 / Loose, tire chatter, predictable handling

17 / 63 / 6.222 / 6.32 / Tire chatter, loose, good brakes, a little noisy

16 / 1 / 6.150 / 6.46 / Nice car, smooth, a little loose, more motor?

15 / 76 / 6.105 / 6.17 / Smooth, some tail-outs, easy driver

14 / 21 / 5.999 / 6.03 / Loose, tails out, good brakes, predictable

13 / 18 / 5.980 / 6.02 / Smooth, a little loose, no chatter, easy driver

12 / 3 / 5.960 / 6.05 / Body weight high, loose, some tire chatter

11 / 12 / 5.888 / 5.97 / A little loose, soft brakes, easy driver

10 / 25 / 5.882 / 5.994 / Smooth, light, soft brakes, more weight(?)

9 / 7 / 5.856 / 5.91 / Good set up, easy driver, good brakes

8 / 66 / 5.828 / 5.95 / Smooth, a little loose, hard to push, very cool!

7 / 10 / 5.803 / 5.85 / Smooth, good grip, can be pushed

6 / 65 / 5.663 / 5.69 / Smooth, light, soft brakes, easy driver

5 / 33 / 5.658 / 5.78 / Smooth, a little loose, easy driver

4 / 2 / 5.533 / 5.65 / Nice car, good brakes, smooth, easy driver

3 / 52 / 5.464 / 5.54 / Smooth, good brakes, hard to push

2 / 70 / 5.434 / 5.48 / Smooth, fast, predictable handling

1 / 35 / 5.282 / 5.33 / The race is for second place – UNREAL CAR!

The top 3 cars all broke the previous track record of 5.495 seconds/lap, making rubber tired cars the fastest, so far, on this track.

A special shout out to Dave West (DRW21) for building a truly outstanding racer! :text-bravo: So, easy to drive, so easy to push and so fast on this track. Breaking the old track record by more than 2/10ths is quite an achievement. That record will be safe for a good long while, I think...………...

Here's your qualy podium:

The race is scheduled for this coming Sunday; starting around 9:00AM. I don't have streaming capabilities, but we'll take lots of pics!

Good luck to everyone!

Well I will take a solid mid-pack for my first outing. I am hoping the easy driving equates for some decent race results. Looks like it could have used more ponies with a skilled driver at hand!

Thanks Allan!

Ouch! Looks like I got this one really wrong! Congrats to the top qualifiers, hopefully my car races better than it qualified.

Luck is what I will need.

Congrats to the top qualifiers. Some pretty fast times put up. Cars breaking track records indicate some serious effort put in.

Ouch! That was disappointing  ; based on test times at my track vs my Group 5 BMW and a few others I was hoping the McLaren would be about half a second quicker than the BMW here... something in the 5.8s. Instead it's half a tenth slower  Oh well, c'est la guerre.

Big congrats to Dave, Smokio and Allan for TQ spots. Dave, can I be the first in line for the seminar I hope you're giving on how to set up a Thunderslot McLaren?

cheers
Scott

PS. That has got to be one of the best looking proxy fields I have ever seen, well done everyone.

Hi Allan,

Thanks for the update - pleasing to see the #12 Zepmobile there or thereabouts...

Agree with the comments about the appearance of the field - really takes you back about 50 years ( ouch...)

Brumos, looks like you had a good day.
Dale, I'm not far behind you.

Didn't make the top half of the field but wasn't off by much. Procrastination will kill you. Glad I bought the car on Tuesday. That Revell/Monogram on the HRS chassis was 8 secs off of the pace of the #21. I would hate to see how it would rate in this field of speed. 8-)

Allan, today should have been a National Holiday thanks to you and Bob hosting qualifying. Bob you can flat out drive as I look at how close the fastest lap time is to their average lap time is phenomenal. And the cars! Everyone of them is a true work of art. I love that #1, 76 owes someone toast but is breath taking. The 7 on a Plafit, ooh the 66 and the 25. I could go on and on.

Congratulations to DW21 who is truly disrupting the proxy world of late. Smokieo as always job well done and you're looking good while doing it. Allan, another stellar build.
Looking through this field, I can say, no one get comfortable as there are fast cars up and down this field regardless current qualifying. Good luck to all the builders on race day.

Thanks for the Q-run and comments Bob and Allan, great to get the event under way.

Looks like our friends from Australasia are teaching us a proxy lesson or two these days, if if is not Camber, Gas41T and Johnny, then it's this DRW guy! :D

I would have preferred a slightly better qualifying position, but I am neither pleased or dis-pleased with car #7 at the moment - I will call it the vanilla car for now. Time will tell how it will race, but the gap to the top 3 is almost a timezone away.

Interestingly my Can-Am car qualified within a 1/100 of a second to the time my Group 5 car did at the same track a few weeks ago. Amazing when you think the Lola is a 105g monster with a 25k motor (I really could have done with a few more HP) and my Group 5 car is a little BMW 320 weighing about 22g less and runs with a 30k motor. On my track the Lola was 2/10 slower than the BMW, but it was very consistent over a race distance, however here the gap to the front is significant.

Great to see a few of my fellow Group 5 friends with strong performances, good luck to you all!

Very pleased to see the Chaparral 2J qualified in 8th. With all the ThunderSlots and Slot.it M8s in the field I was afraid that the 2J fans wouldn’t be spitting debris into the faces of other drivers because not many would be following. So, congratulations to Bob Bianchi for squeezing a quick lap from the flying box. However, I’m appropriately alarmed by the driver’s description, “... a little loose, hard to push....,” and the significant difference between 10 lap mean and fastest lap. This likely means that it’s a difficult car to consistently drive near its potential.

Hopefully the race results won’t be too different.

Thanks to Allan and Bob. Well done.
