Hey guys, I made this up last night. This is my first proxy, and I have been digging through past years for relevant information and correlation between tire type, driveline type etc. Anyway, I took people configuration data and will be updating it with qualifying and finishing positions throughout the season. At the end I should be able to generate some cool graphs and such (I hope).

There are some big movers between qual and finishing in the field, both gaining positions and losing. This link should be able to be viewed by anyone, just copy and paste or click.

I'm a data nerd, so keeping an eye on this. A missing variable, and perhaps the most important one, is the human element. Who qualified the cars, and how was the race run? Typically, we assume that if the cars are relatively equal, the driver will be the determining factor when it comes to the outcome.

Good idea, Zack, collecting and posting this type of data. My car was a -5 on Sunday. The comments from the driver who qualified my car 8th, Bob Bianchi, were spot on: “smooth, a little loose, difficult to push.” At The River Run course, it was a quick car that was difficult to drive more quickly.
