How many of you remember, or have ever heard of the 1962 "Penn Line" A.J. Foyt- Indy 500 HO Slot Car set ?

Penn Line Indy Set -Cars, Controller and Track, and IMO, the Track looks like MARX HO Track !?


Penn Line Indy Cars looks Sweet, and like none I've ever seen before, but they look rather Large, maybe even bigger than 1/64th scale ?


Penn Line Indy Set- Specs. And I believe that Penn Line, was predominantly an HO Train Manufacturer ?

Here's a Pic (or two) of the Chassis, note how it uses the same style gear drive system as Atlas, Marx, Lionel and Eldon HO. The motor looks identical to the Can motors in Marx, which I've been collecting lately.

The are great looking cars but closer to 1/43rd I got one when I was modeling Indy Roadsters

Very nice, Ralph. Being a big A.J. fan, I've always liked those. There's at least one copy of the color four page magazine sized brochure for the set layin' around here amongst my vintage literature. Of course, silly me, I can't show you any pictures of it! Maybe next time we talk on the phone I can try doing a photo while we're talking. = Ernie :>)

Wonder if those would be O-gauge like the larger cars made by Lionel? That would put them at 1/48?
Any way you cut it though - those are pretty cool looking! :D

Very interesting! I am always fascinated when reading about the major train companies trying to cash in on slot cars while they were hot. It sure made for some interesting stuff now 50+ years later!

These are great! I had never seen this set before. The cars are pretty detailed for the era and size.

Something ELSE Escaped the Burn Pile ! I got an email from the guy that I got the Penn Line Indy 500 Box lid from(which is framed and on the wall now). And he told me the amish guy discovered something from the set that he didn't burn , but set aside and forgot about.... he said it was this Red Box thing. LOL- so I went to the amish guy's shop and he had been expecting me. And what he had saved, and spared from the burn pile, was the Set Transformer ! :)
So now I have the box lid and the Transformer from the Penn Line set. Oh, and btw, the 12v transformer Works GREAT ! :banana-dance:

Roger, yeah, I know you were asking about that year Galaxies, but this one was made by Hasbro Inc, copyright 1998. And the wheelbase is a L-o-n-g > 45.45mm (Approx.- as the axles wobble)
