Wow, Larry, that is a great sight for a Ford guy like me. I love those 60's Ford stockers. Well done!!
I had an original Aurora vibrator '62 Galaxie body on a Thunderjet 500 chassis in my runner box for many, many, years. Tan body with black roof, the interior and rear window were removed. Aurora 'Tuff Ones' rear wheels with silicones on all four corners, set at about 1 1/4" wide. Pretty much a stock T-Jet chassis other than the Wizzard motor brushes and the BSRT 'ski' type pickup shoes (that stuff came along a little later after the original build). The chassis currently runs under a similarly modified red Aurora '67 Galaxie XL500 body, which is a little lighter and can be 'tossed around' a bit more, especially on a road course.
As far as the '62 body goes, I lowered the thing so far down that the rear quarter panels started to crack and eventually broke off completely! Those old tan Aurora bodies are known to become brittle after all these years, but it was built back in the late 60's-early 70's, so... who knew? I've retired it from competition for now, but looking at yours is getting me thinking about repairing it again and hittin' the ovals with ol' number 62 once more!
I didn't know that Mike made the '62 Ford, I have a maroon '64 I bought from him a while back, with plans for another short track oval build like my '62 and '67. Again, congrats to you on your '62, and most of all... have a blast racin' it!!
Enjoy... Ernie
